The proposal is to gather content focused on health promotion, prevention of complications, and strengthening continuous care.
The training was designed for primary care health professionals, elderly caregivers, community health agents, family members, people with diabetes, and others interested in the topic.
With this, Fiocruz seeks to reach both SUS workers and individuals directly affected by the condition.
According to Fiocruz, diabetes mellitus, especially type 2, is a public health problem that requires early identification, adequate monitoring, and connection with basic health units.
These factors are pointed out as essential for improving disease control.
Course content includes prevention, medications, and bariatric surgery
The course curriculum is organized into three modules, progressing from an epidemiological overview to treatment strategies and complication prevention.
The first module presents concepts about diabetes mellitus, risk factors, preventive strategies, and associated comorbidities.
In the next stage, participants study diabetes treatment from different perspectives, including diet, physical activity, self-care education, bariatric surgery, and medication use.
The module also covers available therapeutic classes and management in elderly patients.
The third module addresses the organization of the health care network and the prevention of diabetes mellitus complications.
Topics include care networks, chronic diseases, self-care, cardiovascular and microvascular complications, and strategies to reduce risks throughout follow-up.
Training can be done by professionals, caregivers, and family members
The training is not limited to professionals with a degree in the health field.
Fiocruz informs that caregivers, family members, people with diabetes, and other interested parties can enroll, which expands the reach of the initiative beyond health services.
For primary care workers, the content can support guidance, monitoring, and prevention practices in basic units.
For family members and people with diabetes, the course offers structured information on self-care and interaction with SUS services.
The first offering of the training certified over 20,000 students, according to Campus Virtual Fiocruz.
The new class maintains the free and online format, with spots filled according to the order of registration of interested parties.
Free certificate will be made available to approved participants
Approved participants will be entitled to a free certificate of completion, available in the training area of the platform.
To receive the document, it is necessary to meet the requirements specified in the course’s virtual environment.
The total workload is 40 hours, distributed across the three thematic modules.
As it is an online training, participation takes place via the Fiocruz platform, with no need for in-person attendance.
