The Ford Bronco Electric Debuts In China With BEV And EREV Versions, A Range Of Up To 1,220 Km And Advanced Technology, Marking A New Phase Of The Bronco Line In The Electrified SUV Segment.

Ford officially launched the Ford Bronco Electric in China, offering fully electric (BEV) and hybrid with range extender (EREV) versions. Produced by the JMC-Ford joint venture, the model has an initial price of 229,800 yuan.

The highlight is the impressive range: up to 1,220 km in the hybrid version.

With a rugged design, advanced on-board technology, and strong off-road appeal, the electric Bronco marks a new phase of the Bronco line in the Chinese market.

Versions Of The Ford Bronco Electric

The Ford Bronco Electric will be available in five main configurations: two are BEV (fully electric) and three are EREV (hybrid with range extender).

BEV (Pure Electric): Equipped with two motors — one on the front axle (130 kW / 174 hp) and another on the rear (202 kW / 271 hp) — powered by a 105.4 kWh LFP battery.

EREV (Hybrid With Generator): Uses a 1.5 Turbo combustion engine (110 kW / 148 hp) solely as a generator, plus two electric motors, and a 43.7 kWh BYD Blade battery.

Impressive Range Of The Ford Bronco Electric

The range is one of the most striking aspects of the Ford Bronco Electric:

In the BEV version, according to the Chinese CLTC cycle, the model achieves up to 650 km on a full charge.

In the hybrid EREV variant, the Bronco combines a full battery and fuel tank to deliver up to 1,220 km of total range.

This range is possible because the combustion generator kicks in when the battery is depleted, keeping the electric motors operational.

Design And Technology: Robustness And Innovation

The new electric Bronco retains the classic off-road identity of the line, with a boxy appearance and hidden door handles.

Inside, the SUV combines cutting-edge technology with comfort:

  • Rectangular digital dashboard and 15.6″ multimedia center, powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 8255 chip.
  • HUD (Head-Up Display) with augmented reality of up to 70″.
  • Sound system with 21 speakers and a 7.5-liter refrigerator integrated into the center console.
  • Panoramic sunroof and front trunk (frunk) of 160 liters, in the BEV version. 

Safety And Intelligent Driving

The Ford Bronco Electric doesn’t skimp on driver assistance technology: it has 32 integrated sensors and two Nvidia Orin-X chips to manage advanced ADAS (Advanced Driver Assistance Systems).

Additionally, some versions come with LiDAR On The Roof, enabling advanced autonomous or semi-autonomous driving features, especially in urban settings or on highways.

The model is manufactured in China through the joint venture between Ford and Jiangling Motors (JMC).

So far, the Ford Bronco Electric appears to have been developed exclusively for the Chinese market — Ford has not indicated concrete plans to export it to other countries.

Price Of The Ford Bronco Electric

With a launch price in China of 229,800 yuan, the value is close to R$ 171 thousand in direct conversion.

This positioning shows that Ford aims to make the electric Bronco competitive, especially considering its high range and embedded technology.

Despite being electrified, the Bronco Electric maintains its credentials for adventure. According to reports, it retains modes for different types of terrain and 4×4 traction (AWD), ideal for trails and more challenging terrains.

Additionally, there’s mention of a retractable rooftop tent, which reinforces the vehicle’s suitability for camping and outdoor activities.

Limitations And Prospects For Other Markets

Although the launch of the Ford Bronco Electric brings advancements, there are some limitations:

Market Restricted To China: There is no confirmation that the electric version will reach other countries.

Heavy Weight: According to Quatro Rodas, the electric version weighs around 2,630 kg, which may affect efficiency in some situations.

Limited Top Speed: The electric version has a top speed of 170 km/h, which may disappoint those seeking aggressive performance.

On the other hand, the partnership with BYD for the use of Blade batteries and the adoption of cutting-edge technology (such as LiDAR and advanced chips) indicate that Ford is seriously committed to electrification in China, potentially paving the way for future innovations.

The Ford Bronco Electric represents a strategic shift for Ford in the Chinese market, bringing sustainable mobility without sacrificing the traditional robustness of the Bronco line.

With BEV and hybrid versions offering up to 1,220 km of range, advanced embedded technology, and competitive pricing, the model positions itself as an ambitious option for consumers seeking a technological and adventurous SUV.

For now, however, it remains an exclusive product for China — leaving open the possibility (or not) of its arrival in other markets.
