Giant beams of almost 16 tons and 20 meters will be lifted by a large crane on the Anêmonas Bridge in Joinville this Friday. The mega-project of about 27 million reais over the Itaum-Açú River will directly benefit more than 114 thousand residents when completed.
The works on the Anêmonas Bridge in Joinville, in the North of Santa Catarina, enter a new phase this Friday (5). Giant pre-molded beams, of almost 16 tons and about 20 meters in length, begin to be lifted by a large crane on the side of the Guanabara neighborhood.
The mega-project, budgeted at about 27 million reais and built over the Itaum-Açú River, will connect the neighborhoods of Fátima and Guanabara. When completed, the bridge is expected to directly benefit more than 114 thousand residents of the region and improve mobility throughout the city.
Larger giant beams arrive on the side of the Guanabara neighborhood

After completing the launch of the first pieces on the side of Anêmonas Street, in the Fátima neighborhood, it is now the turn of the side of Esteves Júnior Street, in Guanabara.

The Anêmonas Bridge has 10 supports and, therefore, nine spans. In this phase, eight giant beams will be launched between supports 1 and 2, and they are larger than those of the first section already executed.
The difference appears in the numbers. While the pieces already installed between supports 9 and 10 measure 17.90 meters and weigh about 13.95 tons, the giant beams being installed now are 19.90 meters long and have an estimated weight of 15.5 tons.
In total, the project in Joinville will use 72 pre-molded reinforced concrete beams, with 40 measuring 19.90 meters, 16 measuring 16.90 meters, and another 16 measuring 17.90 meters.
How the Crane and the Logistics Operation Work

According to information from the NDMAIS portal, the logistics are as impressive as the pieces. The transport begins in the morning, in the precast yard behind the Arena Joinville, where the beams are placed on a trailer with the aid of cranes.
The route follows through the back gate of the arena, passes over the Harald Karmann Bridge, and reaches Guanabara and Esteves Júnior streets in a staggered manner: the first trip carries one beam, the next three carry two pieces each, and the last transports one more.
Due to the size of the structures, the movement is accompanied by the Traffic Department, with temporary blockades and vehicle flow guidance.
The operation was scheduled for the Corpus Christi holiday and during times of lower traffic, precisely to reduce the impact on traffic.
Once on site, the giant beams are removed from the trailer and hoisted onto the structure by a large crane, a robust piece of equipment responsible for positioning them precisely between supports 1 and 2.
The Anêmonas Bridge and the Impact for 114 Thousand Residents
Built over the Itaum-Açú River, the Anêmonas Bridge will connect Anêmonas street, in the Fátima neighborhood, to Esteves Júnior street, in Guanabara.
The reinforced concrete structure will be about 200 meters long and 14 meters wide, with two lanes, a pedestrian sidewalk, and a bike path on both sides, creating a new crossing for those traveling in the region.
The social reach is significant. According to the City Hall, the bridge is expected to directly benefit more than 114 thousand residents of the Guanabara, Fátima, Adhemar Garcia, Jarivatuba, Itaum, and Paranaguamirim neighborhoods, in addition to improving traffic throughout the municipality.
By connecting the Southeast region to the central area, the project promises to ease traffic and also facilitate public transport, impacting much more than the 114 thousand residents directly mentioned.
Previous Stages and What Remains to Complete the Mega Project
Reaching the stage of the giant beams required extensive preliminary work. Before the launch, the project went through the pile driving, done with special equipment due to the mangrove, as well as the construction of the foundation blocks and the crossbeams, which receive and support the beams.
Each of these steps is what ensures that the crane can now safely set the heavy concrete pieces.
Funded with resources from the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB) and budgeted at around 27 million reais, the Anêmonas Bridge will still have stages such as the execution of the roadway until completion.
Even without a final date set, the expectation is that the delivery will happen in the coming months, making Joinville another city in Santa Catarina to transform an infrastructure promise into reality for the 114 thousand residents benefited.
Seeing giant beams of almost 16 tons crossing Joinville to build a bridge that will change the routine of 114 thousand residents is the type of project that shows engineering in action.
