Attracting new investments to the state of Bahia

On the occasion, Rui presented the structure of the state of Bahia to receive new investments in this area. “In this first agenda, we discussed wind energy projects, solar energy and about developing a pilot project for the production of green hydrogen, which is the future of energy generation, discussed worldwide. We are also talking about other partnerships with Siemens Energy in the area of automation, safety, health and urban mobility, which should generate jobs and income for the people of Bahia”, highlighted the governor.

Hydrogen is the most efficient fuel that exists, having three times the energy capacity of gasoline. It is even used by NASA in space rockets. The disadvantage of using hydrogen on an industrial scale is that current production uses natural gas and generates large amounts of greenhouse gases. The solution being developed by Siemens Energy and which motivated the governor's visit to the company is the clean production of hydrogen through electrolysis, a chemical process that uses renewable energy and water.

Use of renewable sources.

At the meeting, Siemens Energy presented the functionalities of green hydrogen for mobility, serving as fuel for urban buses, planes, ships, and how clean and large-scale production will allow to feed industries. They also presented a pilot project installed in Chile, which will use green hydrogen to manufacture gasoline.

According to the Director of Government Relations at Siemens Energy in Brazil, Henrique Paiva, Bahia has all the conditions to receive these investments. “We left this meeting very happy because we share the same visions of world development with the delegation from Bahia. The state has all the necessary structure for this new production. It has wind energy, qualified people, factories, local consumption and port for export. It is enough to converge to the strategic alliances between all the participants in this partnership”, he said.

The growing global market for green hydrogen is expected to be worth $11 trillion by 2050, according to expert estimates. “The arrival of wind and solar energy changed the reality of the regions where they were installed in Bahia, with the generation of jobs and income, which is reflected in commerce and people's quality of life. We want to expand these effects with new partnerships”, said Rui. The governor also proposed that Siemens Energy participate, as a partner of the State, in the technical training of students who live in regions where there are renewable energy parks. The idea is that these young people from the state network are prepared to work in the maintenance and implementation of these clean energy projects.
