The Governor’s Objective Is to Expand the Production of Electric Cars and Their Components in the State of Minas Gerais, to Contribute to the Reduction of Pollutant Gas Emissions

The Governor of Minas Gerais, Romeu Zema, was in New York, in the United States, to negotiate the installation of a battery factory for electric cars in the state. Zema met with representatives of BYD, a Chinese company that produces components for the renewable energy sector, including electric buses and photovoltaic panels. The Objective of the Visit Is to Attract Investments to Minas Gerais, which is rich in lithium and niobium, raw materials for battery production. BYD already has a battery factory for electric vehicles in Manaus and ongoing projects for the construction of a monorail in São Paulo and Salvador, according to the website Itatiaia.

Minas Gerais is a state with a privileged location in the center of Brazil, serving large markets such as Rio de Janeiro, São Paulo, and the Federal District. The governor noted that the state is “open for business” for those who want to invest and create jobs. The installation of a battery factory for electric cars would be a significant step in sustaining the state’s economy and contributing to the reduction of greenhouse gas emissions.

Minas Gerais Potential for Battery Production for Electric Cars

Minas Gerais is a state rich in minerals, including lithium and niobium, which are important raw materials for battery production for electric cars. Lithium is used in the production of lithium-ion batteries, which are the most common in electric vehicles. Niobium is used in high-strength, lightweight steels, which are used in the manufacturing of electric cars.

The production of batteries for electric cars is an emerging market, with projections for significant growth in the coming years. With the installation of a factory in the state, Minas Gerais could become an important hub for electric cars and battery production in the country, generating jobs and hopefully contributing to the transition to a cleaner energy matrix.

Investments in Renewable Energy in Minas Gerais

In addition to negotiations for the installation of a battery factory for electric cars, the governor of Minas Gerais announced last Saturday, 02, an agreement with the company Boston Metal for the construction of a green steel production unit in the city of Coronel Xavier Chaves. The investment of over R$ 570 million will use waste from dams to produce metal using electricity, a clean energy source.

Minas Gerais has stood out in the field of renewable energy, with ongoing projects for the construction of solar and wind power plants. The production of renewable energy is important for reducing greenhouse gas emissions and contributing to the fight against climate change. With the attraction of investments in this sector, Minas Gerais could become a significant producer of clean energy in the country.
