“Another person backed out of buying it, so I grabbed it,” the winner recounted while explaining how he found the ticket left on the counter. The game cost US$ 10 and was scratched off right after the purchase.

“I scratched off the ticket and couldn’t believe what I saw when I realized I had won a million dollars,” the man stated, describing the moment of discovering the top prize.

One-Time Payment Option Reduces Final Amount

After confirming the result, the winner visited the headquarters of the Michigan Lottery to claim his prize. He chose to receive US$ 693,000 in a single payment, opting out of receiving the US$ 1 million in installments.

“Winning is an amazing feeling, but it also brings a lot of pressure because you start imagining all the things you could do with that amount,” he said, commenting on the financial decision made.
