Partnership Between Honeywell and ExxonMobil in Carbon Capture
Honeywell, a global leader in industrial solutions, and ExxonMobil, a giant in the oil and gas sector, recently announced a partnership to implement Honeywell’s CO2 Fractionation and Hydrogen Purification technology. This collaboration aims to capture carbon at ExxonMobil’s Baytown facility, located in Texas.
With the help of Honeywell’s technology, ExxonMobil will be able to capture approximately 7 million tons of carbon dioxide (CO2) per year, which is equivalent to the emissions of 1.5 million cars over the same period. This initiative will significantly contribute to reducing CO2 emissions at the Baytown plant.
Low-Carbon Hydrogen Production in Baytown
Through this partnership, ExxonMobil’s Baytown complex will begin producing hydrogen, ammonia, and will implement the CO2 capture system. The facility will generate about one billion cubic feet of hydrogen per day, making it the world’s largest low-carbon hydrogen producer. Production is expected to start between 2027 and 2028.

ExxonMobil’s investment in Honeywell’s carbon capture technology demonstrates the companies’ commitment to reducing CO2 emissions and supporting the energy transition. The shift from natural gas to low-carbon hydrogen will allow for a reduction of up to 30% in Scope 1 and 2 emissions at the Baytown facility.
Advanced CO2 Capture Technology from Honeywell
With over 50 years of experience in gas processing, Honeywell has extensive knowledge in carbon capture and hydrogen processing technologies. Honeywell’s advanced CO2 capture solutions utilize state-of-the-art solvents, enabling efficient and low-cost capture, transportation, and storage of CO2.
Currently, Honeywell’s CO2 capture solutions are responsible for capturing about 15 million tons of CO2 per year for various applications. Facilities equipped with Honeywell’s technology have the capacity to capture approximately 40 million tons of CO2 annually.
