Investment in Sustainability and Technology
At the forefront of sustainability, Hydro Paragominas, one of Brazil’s leading mining companies located in Pará, is adopting electric vehicle technology in its operations. This initiative aligns with the global decarbonization target by 2030, demonstrating a firm commitment to innovation and environmental responsibility.
The mining company, in partnership with Irmen Máquinas, recently integrated two 100% electric SANY SKT90E trucks into its fleet, each capable of carrying 60 tons. “These electric trucks are a game changer. In addition to reducing about 190 tons of CO2 per year, each offers about 12 hours of autonomy per charge,” explains Edil Pimentel, Mine Operation Manager at Hydro Paragominas.
Emission Reduction and Energy Efficiency
Fleet Transformation
Hydro Paragominas has not stopped with electric trucks. Recently, it replaced 50% of its diesel-powered light vehicle fleet with ethanol combustion models and added 10 electric cars. “This change represents a significant reduction in CO2 emissions, equivalent to planting 332 trees per year,” emphasizes Eduardo Pedras, Infrastructure Manager at Hydro Paragominas.

Focus on Sustainable Transport
The company has also innovated in transportation for its employees. It implemented a 100% electric air conditioning system in eight buses, with plans to expand to the entire fleet. “This technology will not only reduce CO2 emissions by about 220 tons per year but will also provide greater comfort to users and reduce maintenance costs,” comments Thiago Caliman, director of the transportation company.
Hydro Paragominas is a pioneer in Brazil in adopting Innovaklim’s cooling technology. With a system that operates with an electric compressor and batteries, and even photovoltaic panels on one of the buses, the mining company is setting a new standard in sustainable transportation.
Positive Impact on the Market
The growth of electric vehicles in Brazil, according to data from the Brazilian Association of Electric Vehicles (ABVE), reflects a global trend toward seeking sustainable alternatives. Hydro Paragominas is an example of this, showing that sustainability can go hand in hand with innovation and efficiency.
Conclusion: Leading by Example
Eduardo Pedras sums up: “Hydro Paragominas is at the forefront of adopting sustainable technologies. We are not only improving our operational efficiency and reducing our carbon footprint but also encouraging our suppliers and partners to adopt more sustainable practices. This is a win for everyone, from the safety and well-being of our employees to the sustainability of the planet.”
The initiative by Hydro Paragominas is a significant milestone in the industry, demonstrating that companies can be proactive in adopting sustainable technologies that benefit the environment, improve operational efficiency, and create a more pleasant work environment.
