Hyundai Plans Several Imports to Brazil, Including Electric Cars
Despite Caoa Chery launching several new models last year, Hyundai went through a period with few releases. Now, the automaker is planning several imports to Brazil, with launches expected even as late as 2025, according to Quatro Rodas website.
Among the new models, the first is the Hyundai Ioniq, a hybrid sedan that has been available for lease since the end of last year and will be on sale starting in March. “We were gauging the market,” explained engineering director Leonardo Lukacs about the idea of selling the conventional hybrid a few months after making it available for rental in Brazil.
The First Electric Car from Hyundai in Brazil
The first electric car from Hyundai to arrive in Brazil will be the Kona EV, a compact SUV expected to arrive in August this year. The vehicle will be available in a single version, with a front motor of 136 hp and 40.3 kgfm.

However, only the smaller battery size will be available in this model. With a capacity of 39.2 kWh, the electric car’s cells can achieve 252 km of range, according to the new measurement from Inmetro.
When it comes to pricing, Hyundai Brazil will only reveal the price of the electric car next week. In the meantime, estimates suggest that the Kona EV will cost between R$ 230,000 and R$ 300,000.
Hyundai Brazil Announces Several News
In addition to the import of the first electric car, there will also be a slight redesign of the current Tucson manufactured in Goiás, and a new version of the Hyundai HR will be produced, now with 4×4 traction. However, none of these other updates is as important as the Hyundai Kona.
The Kona HEV will arrive in Brazil even before the Kona EV, and its mechanics will be virtually the same as the Ioniq with 141 hp and 27.0 kgfm, ensured by the combination of a 1.6 naturally aspirated engine with direct injection and the 143 hp and 17.3 kgfm electric motor. The dual-clutch six-speed transmission with wet clutch, which is highly praised and also used by Kia, completes the setup.
As drawbacks, both the Kona EV and HEV will arrive in Brazil with an outdated design. This will occur because the SUV recently underwent a major redesign abroad, bringing its style much closer to Hyundai’s more famous electric cars, the Ioniq 5 and 6.
