Engie Brasil Infuses R$ 6 Billion in Gentio do Ouro, Bahia, to Revolutionize Wind Energy and the Local Job Market.
In the city of Gentio do Ouro, Bahia, Engie Brasil Energia is materializing an ambitious bet on wind energy. With a planned allocation of R$ 6 billion, the project not only aims to expand Brazil’s renewable energy matrix but also intends to create up to 3,000 jobs, both direct and indirect, at the peak of its construction activities.
Current Status of the Construction of Engie Brasil’s Wind Farm in Gentio do Ouro
After receiving environmental approval from the Bahia Institute of Environment and Water Resources (Inema), the Serra do Assuruá Wind Farm project has advanced significantly. Currently, 50% of the vegetation removal and topographic survey work has been completed, while the geotechnical research phase has reached 80% of its development.
To boost local employment, Engie Brasil has partnered with the Department of Labor, Employment, Income, and Sports (Setre). The goal is to facilitate the recruitment of the local workforce through registration campaigns, which will also be directed to Quilombola Communities and other traditional communities in the region.

In alignment with Setre, Engie Brasil has been encouraging professional training in Gentio do Ouro. The Qualifica Bahia Program was implemented to offer training courses for masons, carpenters, and concrete reinforcement workers.
This program is specifically aimed at individuals with low income and education, thus contributing to a significant social improvement in the region.
Potential and Longevity of Wind Energy in Gentio do Ouro
Paulo Muller, the manager responsible for the implementation of the project, emphasizes that the initiative is not only a contribution to Brazil’s renewable energy matrix.
It is also a vehicle for the sustainable economic growth of the region, which will benefit both the municipality and the State of Bahia through the taxes generated by wind energy. Additionally, social programs will be implemented, strengthening Engie Brasil’s commitment to local development.
The Serra do Assuruá Wind Farm will be executed in a single phase, with an installed capacity of 846 MW. It will include 24 wind farms and 188 wind turbines, as well as 28 km of transmission lines.
With 4.5 MW power wind turbines standing 165 meters high, the produced energy will be directed to the Free Energy Market, allowing direct purchase by companies.
Engie Brasil’s investment of R$ 6 billion in wind energy in Gentio do Ouro is more than an infrastructure project. It represents a multi-faceted commitment to environmental sustainability, social development, and energy innovation. It is a beacon for the future of wind energy in Brazil and a milestone in the nation’s sustainable growth trajectory.
