Itaú Unibanco and AES Brasil Closed an Agreement to Invest Approximately R$ 360 Million in New Clean Energy Projects, Expanding the Bank’s Renewable Energy Portfolio
AES Brasil’s subsidiary, AES Operações, celebrated with Itaú Unibanco this Monday (3) an investment agreement for clean energy production projects. The financial institution will subscribe to new preferred shares to be issued in the context of a capital increase made by Guaimbê Holding, where approximately R$ 360 million will be offered by Itaú. It is worth noting that the agreement was approved on December 16 by the Administrative Council for Economic Defense (Cade).

According to relevant data released, the agreement enhances the AES Brasil Group’s capacity to attract quality clean energy investors, as well as affirming the bank’s commitment to promoting clean energy generation through renewable sources.
Itaú is Expanding Its Portfolio with Clean and Renewable Energy Projects
According to AES Brasil, this is an opportunity to promote its growth project, directing the resources provided by Itaú to expand its portfolio of clean energy generation projects.
In the agreement between the bank and the company, AES Operações is also expected to contribute, through Guaimbê Holding, its stake in the company that forms the Ventus Wind Energy complex, Ventus Wind Energy Holding, located in Rio Grande do Norte, as well as its stake in the AGV Solar IV, V, and VI Energy Generation S.A companies, which comprise the second phase of the Ouroeste solar energy complex, located in the city of Ouroeste, in the State of São Paulo.
AES Brasil and Itaú Invest in Sustainability
AES Brasil and Itaú have already closed several agreements to invest in sustainability. Recently, AES made an agreement with Unipar for the self-production of clean energy in a project that will receive investments exceeding R$ 500 thousand in wind generation in the Northeast.
The partnership between the two companies aims to install a park with 91 MW of installed capacity in the Cajuína wind energy complex in Rio Grande do Norte. With this new agreement, Unipar will produce 80% of all the electricity used.
Meanwhile, Itaú, in partnership with Enel X, developed an electric car sharing service in the country, focusing on sustainability. The vehicles offered by the service are BMW i3, Jaguar I-Pace, JAC iEV40, and also the Nissan Leaf. The system is similar to those previously implemented by the bank, known as “Bike Itaú” bicycles. According to the Bank, in the first phase alone, 500 of its employees had access to the electric cars that were already planned for the service’s launch at the end of 2020.
