The New Electric Car Announced by Lamborghini Will Be Launched Only in 2028, but Preparations for the Model’s Launch Are in Full Swing
Lamborghini, the renowned supercar manufacturer, has confirmed its plans to enter the electric vehicle market. The much-anticipated first electric car from the brand is scheduled to be launched in 2028. The company announced that this new model will be a four-seater coupe, marking a significant shift from its traditional sports cars, according to the website Motor Uol.
Unlike many other manufacturers that opted to launch electric SUVs as their first forays into the electric segment, Lamborghini chose a four-seater coupe for its debut. The intention is to create an electric vehicle that is practical for everyday use while still maintaining the brand’s sporty and high-performance DNA.
Details Still Under Wraps
Despite the announcement, Lamborghini has not revealed many details about the new electric model. The company’s CEO, Stephan Winkelmann, previously mentioned that the vehicle will have a ground clearance intermediate between traditional sports cars and the brand’s SUVs, such as the Urus. This choice aims to offer a balance between sporty drivability and everyday usability.

Winkelmann also highlighted that the new electric car will not be developed on a completely new platform from Lamborghini. The manufacturer plans to leverage synergies within the Volkswagen Group, its parent company, to develop the vehicle. This platform-sharing strategy is already seen in the Urus SUV, which shares its foundation with other models in the group.
Path to Electrification
Lamborghini is on a path of gradual electrification. Ahead of the launch of the electric car in 2028, the manufacturer plans to introduce plug-in hybrid versions in models like the Huracan and the Urus. These versions would combine electric motors with combustion engines to enhance efficiency and performance.
However, the commitment to electrification does not stop there. In 2029, the launch of a completely electric successor to the Urus, Lamborghini’s SUV, is expected. The company is focused on finding the balance between adopting green technology and maintaining the emotional and thrilling experience that its cars provide.
Expectations and Preparations
Lamborghini enthusiasts are eager to see how the brand will incorporate its distinctive style and remarkable performance into an electric vehicle. With the global automotive market rapidly moving towards electrification, Lamborghini appears to be solidly preparing to face the challenges and opportunities that this transition brings. In the meantime, car lovers are eagerly awaiting the launch of the first electric car from the iconic supercar manufacturer.
