Lecar, a Brazilian manufacturer founded by lawyer Flávio Figueiredo Assis in 2022, is preparing to be the pioneer in producing electric cars in Brazil. Based in São Paulo with an industrial plant in Rio Grande do Sul, the company developed the prototype of the Lecar Model 459, which is undergoing homologation in England with a launch scheduled for December 2024. Despite fiscal challenges in the domestic market, the manufacturer is seeking government incentives to increase the presence of electric cars in the Brazilian urban landscape.

This legislation, enacted in 1993, establishes a reduction in CO2 emissions from vehicles by 2027, highlighting the end of combustion engines starting in 2028.
Thus, in February 2022, Flávio Assis founded Lecar, based in Alphaville, São Paulo, with an industrial plant in Caxias do Sul, Rio Grande do Sul.
The company’s goal is to be Brazil’s first electric car manufacturer. The entrepreneur emphasizes the importance of valuing the country through domestic vehicle production, focusing on the energy transition.
Lecar assembled a team of automotive engineering professionals from companies like Ford, Toyota, and Nissan, and is preparing to make history in the Brazilian market.
The first step toward producing electric cars was dismantling a Tesla to understand the engineering, which led to the development of the Lecar Model 459 prototype.
However, the company still faces challenges with the national tax burden, seeking government incentives to increase the presence of electric cars on the streets.
Lecar Expects to Launch First Model Still in 2024
Lecar’s first electric car model, the Model 459, is in the homologation phase in London, with a launch expected in December 2024.
With an estimated cost of R$ 279 thousand and a range of 400 km per charge, the company emphasizes the need for public policies to make prices more accessible.
In addition to the Model 459, Lecar plans to launch the popular Lecar POP model, aiming to produce 300 vehicles per month in the first year.
The company projects to generate jobs, achieve R$ 1 billion in revenue, and invest in charging infrastructure in the Greater São Paulo area.
In this way, Lecar has already started 2024 focused on advancing its electric car manufacturing project in Brazil.
