The global port sector has a great outlook for this Saturday (07/23), and the company Maersk continues to strengthen its presence in the maritime transport sector, expanding its service infrastructure. The company has just added to its fleet a new container ship, essential for handling large cargo, built by Zodiac Maritime and that has a total of 15,473 TEUs, a high cargo capacity for the company.

Container Ship of 15,473 TEUs Built by Zodiac Maritime Joins Maersk’s Fleet and Contributes to the Company’s Cargo Handling

Maersk has established itself in the global market as one of the largest maritime cargo transport service providers, focusing on container operations, and continues to expand its presence in the sector. The company has made another investment in improvements for goods transportation services and has just added to its fleet a new ULCV (Ultra Large Container Vessel), a newly built container ship with 15,473 TEUs.

Additionally, besides having a gigantic cargo capacity for transporting containers between port complexes worldwide, Zodiac Maritime’s ship is also equipped with a scrubber, which is a device used to reduce harmful exhaust gas emissions, thus contributing to minimizing environmental impacts in the company’s fleet.

Maersk has been reinforcing its commitment to reducing harmful gas emissions into the atmosphere, such as CO2, and this is yet another of its strategies to minimize these impacts.

The maritime logistics company received the container ship from Zodiac Maritime, based in London, this week, to begin operations with the vessel in its fleet at international ports. Furthermore, in addition to this vessel, Maersk is expected to receive at least five more sister ships currently under construction at the South Korean shipyard DSME, according to Alphaliner, which will serve for the expansion of container handling by the company over the coming years.

Zodiac Maritime Expands Container Ship Production and Contract with Maersk Expected to Last 10 Years

Although Maersk has not disclosed the main details of the transaction for the Zodiac Maritime container ship, such as the amount paid for the chartering on a daily, monthly, or yearly basis, information about the duration of the partnership has been shared by VesselsValue. Thus, the chartering contract for the ship to its fleet by the maritime logistics company will last a total of 10 years.

In this way, Zodiac Maritime continues to expand its presence in the container ship segment, as the company ordered a series of ten ships of 15,473 TEUs from DSME between 2020 and 2021, at a price of US$ 108 million each, aiming at the high demand for vessels in the port sector due to the growth of cargo handling using containers.
