The Transnordestina record was reached on June 7, 2026, in Quixeramobim, Ceará, with 3.36 kilometers of tracks assembled. The project has already received R$ 9.8 billion out of a total of R$ 15 billion, but the 81% refers only to the first phase, scheduled for 2027.

The Transnordestina, considered the largest railway in Brazil, set a record by assembling 1.69 kilometers of railway in a single day, reaching about 81% completion in the first phase and plans to deliver another 100 kilometers by the end of June 2026. According to information from the portal ndmais, which monitors the progress of one of the most important infrastructure projects for logistics in the Northeast.

The record marked the highest daily assembly rate since the beginning of the works. The milestone was recorded on June 7, 2026, in Quixeramobim, in the interior of Ceará, during the installation of 3.36 kilometers of tracks in Lot 5, which corresponds to 1.69 kilometers of assembled railway. The achievement comes on the eve of another expected delivery: by the end of June 2026, the expectation is to inaugurate another 100 kilometers of railway between lots 4 and 5, also in Ceará, in addition to 100 new grain wagons.

The record of 1.69 km of railway in a single day

The Transnordestina teams accelerated the pace to an unprecedented level. The new record was the assembly of 1.69 kilometers of railway in just one day, the highest daily rate since the start of construction. The milestone was reached on June 7, in Quixeramobim, in the interior of Ceará, during the installation of 3.36 kilometers of tracks in Lot 5, and reinforces the acceleration of a project considered strategic for the logistics of the Northeast.

The progress comes just before a new delivery. By the end of June, the forecast is to inaugurate another 100 kilometers of completed railway between lots 4 and 5, also in Ceará, along with the delivery of 100 new grain wagons. These are milestones that keep the project at an accelerated pace, although still within a long-term construction that continues to be developed.

81% completion and the billions already invested

The 81% figure refers only to the first phase of the project. The first stage of the Transnordestina is about 81% complete, and it is expected to be finished in 2027. The project has already received R$ 9.8 billion out of a total estimated budget of R$ 15 billion, with part of the funds coming from the FDNE, the Northeast Development Fund, managed by Sudene and linked to the Ministry of Integration and Regional Development.

Public funding continued this year. In March 2026, the Federal Government authorized an additional R$ 152.4 million to ensure the continuity and pace of the works, and, in total, the FDNE has already released more than R$ 6.6 billion for the construction. The Minister of Transport, George Santoro, confirmed that the section of the Transnordestina to the Port of Pecém, in Ceará, will be delivered by the end of 2026.

The official stance is to maintain the speed until the end of the work. For the Minister of Integration and Regional Development, Waldez Góes, the goal is to sustain the pace of work until the railway is completed. “We will advance at an accelerated pace to complete this railway,” he stated, describing the Transnordestina as essential for generating jobs and opportunities in the country’s logistics sector.

The commitment has already been reinforced at the highest level. In July 2025, President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva was in Ceará to announce new investments and reaffirm the Federal Government’s commitment to completing the railway. The release of funds and the accelerated pace of construction signal the priority given to the project by the government.

The connection between Piauí and Ceará and what the railway will transport

When completed, the Transnordestina will cross three states. The railway will be 1,206 kilometers long, connecting Eliseu Martins in Piauí to the Port of Pecém in Ceará, and passing through 53 municipalities in the states of Ceará, Piauí, and Pernambuco. The route is considered strategic for the economic development of the region.

The focus is on reducing transportation costs. The project was designed to facilitate the flow of grains, fertilizers, fuels, cement, and ore, reducing logistical costs and increasing the competitiveness of the Northeast. In addition to improving transportation, the expectation is that the project will generate jobs, attract investments, and strengthen the economic integration of the region, results that still depend on the progress of the railway.

The Transnordestina, considered the largest railway in Brazil, set a record by assembling 1.69 kilometers of railway in a single day, on June 7, in Quixeramobim, Ceará, with 3.36 kilometers of tracks installed, and reached about 81% completion in the first phase, scheduled to finish in 2027. The project has already received R$ 9.8 billion out of an estimated total of R$ 15 billion and has new deliveries on the horizon, such as an additional 100 kilometers by the end of June and the section to the Port of Pecém by the end of 2026. When completed, the railway will be 1,206 kilometers between Piauí and Ceará, aimed at transporting grains, fuels, and ore, with the projected gains in jobs and development as the project advances.

And you, do you believe that the Transnordestina will finally be fully realized, or do you still have doubts given the history of projects of this scale in Brazil?
