About Brazil’s Newest Corn Ethanol Plant
The newest corn ethanol plant in Brazil has a capacity to produce 890 m³ of hydrous ethanol per day. It generates 275 direct jobs and at least three times more indirectly.
According to information from the company, the plant in Nova Mutum received an investment of R$ 550 million and created about 2,000 jobs during construction. It is the second unit of the company in Mato Grosso: the other plant is located in Sinop, producing 560 million liters of corn ethanol per year.
According to Inpasa’s report, in addition to hydrous ethanol from corn, the plant will produce corn oil and DDG – protein meal produced from grain distillation.
With the start of operations of Inpasa’s plant in Nova Mutum, Brazil now has 16 corn ethanol plants in operation. The National Union of Corn Ethanol (Unem) projects that in the 2020/2021 cycle, 2.5 billion liters will be produced.
“Even with the decline in fuel demand caused by the pandemic, corn ethanol production grew by 93% from January to July 2020 compared to the same period in 2019. With the start-up of four plants this year, the sector will expand its installed capacity by over 1 billion liters,” analyzes the president of Unem, Guilherme Nolasco.
In March, a plant with a capacity of 530 million liters/year was inaugurated in Sorriso (MT). Now, in August, Inpasa inaugurates the plant in Nova Mutum to produce 320 million liters. By the end of the year, there is a forecast for two more plants to begin operations, with a combined capacity to produce 200 million liters/year.
