The Ministry of Education (MEC), in partnership with the Coordination for the Improvement of Higher Education Personnel (Capes), launches an unmissable opportunity for those seeking quality training. With the publication of announcement 25/2023, MEC and Capes are making a total of 290,000 places available in distance education (EAD) courses. This initiative, aimed at public higher education institutions that are part of the Open University of Brazil Program (UAB), aims to strengthen the National Policy for Teacher Training of MEC.
Largest Number of Places in Program History
This is a historic milestone, representing the largest number of places offered since the program’s creation in 2006. Classes for these courses will be implemented in municipalities hosting the Distance Learning Hubs (EaD) of UAB, covering the period from July 2024 to December 2026. It is important to note that these places are primarily intended for the initial training of basic education teachers.
Variety of Free EAD Courses Offered by MEC
Participating institutions can propose courses in three distinct areas: training of teachers and other professionals in basic education (including degree programs and specializations); training of public agents; and economic, social, and regional development (with options for bachelor’s degrees, technology programs, and specializations).

Expansion and Innovation in Teacher Training by MEC
This innovative announcement enhances collaboration between the Ministry of Education (MEC) and CAPES, directing the training of basic education teachers towards strategic themes of the ministry. In addition to the Secretary of Professional and Technological Education (Setec), which already offers courses, the program now includes topics proposed by the Secretary of Basic Education (SEB) and the Secretary of Continuing Education, Youth and Adult Literacy, Diversity and Inclusion (Secadi), addressing the theme of environmental education.
The Open University of Brazil System (UAB) plays a crucial role in bringing quality education, in EAD mode, to remote and isolated regions of the country, through partnerships between federal, state, and municipal governments. Its main focus is to contribute to the National Policy for Teacher Training of MEC, with 70% of places allocated for teacher training and 30% for courses in public administration and economic, social, and regional development. It is the perfect opportunity to invest in your educational and professional future.
If you are looking for quality free EAD courses, this is your chance to stand out in the job market and contribute to Brazilian education. Don’t miss this opportunity.
