Coordinated by the Institute of Chemistry of UFRJ and supported by the Brazilian Chemical Society (SBQ), the program is a unique opportunity for continuing education for basic education teachers who wish to expand their knowledge in chemistry and earn a master’s degree.
A Course That Combines Practice and Research
PROFQUI is a stricto sensu master’s course aimed at teachers who are already working in classrooms. Its main objective is to provide in-depth training aligned with the challenges of teaching and the demands of basic education.

The workload is distributed among classes, discussion forums, seminars, and assessments, ensuring that teachers can balance their school routine with graduate studies.

Each associated institution offers its own classes and defines the class schedules, but all follow the same standard of national quality.
In total, there will be 279 spots distributed nationally, with specific reservations for affirmative action, including self-declared Black candidates, Indigenous people, people with disabilities, quilombolas, and the transgender population, according to the regulations of each university.
How the Selection Will Be Conducted
Admission to PROFQUI occurs in two stages. The first is a multiple-choice objective test, scheduled for October 19, 2025, covering topics in general, organic, physical-chemical, and environmental chemistry.
The second stage consists of submitting a letter of intent, where the candidate must present their motivations, research proposal, and expectations regarding the course.
According to the national coordination of the program, “the selection process aims to assess not only technical knowledge but also the teacher’s commitment to improving the quality of chemistry education in the country.”
Requirements to Participate
To apply, the candidate must hold a degree in Chemistry (licentiate or bachelor’s) or related fields, issued by an institution recognized by MEC, as well as prove their work as a chemistry teacher in basic education.
Public school teachers have priority for filling the spots, but if there are remaining places, private school teachers may also be considered.
