Governor Tarcísio de Freitas Announces Megaproject for New Subway Line in SP and Hires More than 8,478 Workers Just in 2024.

A new chapter in the history of urban mobility in São Paulo is about to begin. With an impressive investment of R$ 190 billion, Governor Tarcísio de Freitas launched the ambitious program “São Paulo on the Tracks”. This megaproject aims to revolutionize public transport in the capital and throughout the state, with the construction of a new subway line in SP and the expansion of the metro-rail network by more than 1,000 kilometers. Continue reading to know all the details of the new subway in SP.

What to Expect from the New Subway in SP?

The program “São Paulo on the Tracks” brings together more than 40 projects aimed at passenger and cargo transport by rail. Among them, nine have already been qualified and are ready to move forward. This includes the construction of new subway lines, such as the Lines 19-Celeste and 20-Rosa, which promise to improve mobility in the capital.

The new subway in SP is one of Tarcísio de Freitas’s major bets to ease traffic on major avenues and provide a fast and efficient alternative for the people of São Paulo. The expansion of the metro network includes the implementation of Intercity Trains (TICs), Light Rail Vehicles (VLTs), and urban trains, which together represent an estimated investment of R$ 194 billion.

Tarcísio de Freitas and the Future of Transport in SP

Governor Tarcísio de Freitas has made it clear that the future of transportation in São Paulo lies on the tracks. During the program launch, he emphasized the importance of revitalizing rail transport in the state, which was once one of the most advanced in the country.

“The state of São Paulo has grown, and its major cities were born alongside the tracks. There is a significant effort by the State Government to resume rail transport, which is urgent and important,” Tarcísio stated.

This strategic vision aims not only to improve urban mobility but also to offer a sustainable solution to the congestion on highways, which are becoming increasingly saturated. The expectation is that, with the completion of the projects, the new subway in SP will become one of the main modes of transportation for millions of people every day.

Discover the New Lines of the SP Megaproject

Among the new features of “São Paulo on the Tracks”, the new subway lines deserve special attention. Line 19-Celeste and Line 20-Rosa are among the most anticipated projects by the people of São Paulo. The expansion of these lines will serve regions that were previously poorly connected by the public transport network, providing relief for those facing long daily commutes.

In addition to the new lines, the program also includes the expansion of existing lines, such as Line 2-Verde and Line 4-Amarela. This means more stations, more integration options, and, of course, a more robust network to support the growing number of users.

VLTs and Intercity Trains

Tarcísio de Freitas’s megaproject is not limited to the subway alone. The program also includes the implementation of Light Rail Vehicles (VLTs) and Intercity Trains (TICs), which will connect the capital with other important cities in the state, such as Campinas, Sorocaba, and São José dos Campos.

These TICs will be essential for integrating Greater São Paulo with other regions, facilitating the daily commute of thousands of people who work in the capital but live in nearby cities. The TIC North Axis, for example, will link São Paulo to Campinas, while the TIC West Axis will connect São Paulo to Sorocaba.

Megaproject Creates Thousands of Jobs in São Paulo

The numbers behind this megaproject are impressive. In addition to the R$ 190 billion allocated for the construction and expansion of the lines, the new subway in SP and the other projects of “São Paulo on the Tracks” are expected to generate thousands of jobs both directly and indirectly. Just in 2024, more than 8,478 new workers were hired to work on the subway expansion projects.

The investments in a new subway line in SP not only improve the transportation infrastructure of the state but also boost the local economy, generating jobs and increasing the demand for services and products related to construction and engineering.

Less Time Wasted in Traffic

Tarcísio de Freitas’s megaproject for the new subway line in SP and the expansion of the metro-rail network is undoubtedly one of the most ambitious initiatives ever seen in the state. With a clear vision for the future and a strong commitment to sustainable mobility, São Paulo is making great strides toward becoming an even more connected and efficient city.

For the people of São Paulo, this means more than just new subway lines. It means a future with a higher quality of life, less time wasted in traffic, and a city that moves more intelligently.
