Discover How App Cache from Apps Like WhatsApp, Telegram, and Instagram Consumes Gigabytes on Your iPhone and Learn the Trick to Clear This Hidden Data and Recover Your Space.
The “Storage Almost Full” warning is one of the biggest nightmares for any iPhone owner. The first reaction is always to think about deleting photos, videos, and apps, but the truth is that the real villain for your space may be hiding in a place few look: the app cache.
Over time, social networks and messaging apps accumulate a huge amount of temporary data that can take up several gigabytes. The good news is that there is a way to clean this “digital mess” and recover precious space on your iPhone in just a few minutes, and best of all: without deleting any important conversations or files.
Where is the “Used” Space?
Before starting the cleanup, it’s important to know which apps are the biggest culprits. To do this, go to Settings > General > iPhone Storage. You will see a list of all your apps, sorted by the space they occupy. Keep an eye out for apps like WhatsApp, Telegram, Instagram, and TikTok, which tend to be the champions of cache accumulation.

Telegram: The Easiest Cleanup
Telegram is one of the few apps for iPhone that offers a native tool to clear the cache, making the process extremely simple.
- Open Telegram and go to the Settings tab.
- Select the Data and Storage option.
- Tap on Storage Usage.
- On this screen, just tap Clear Telegram Cache. You can also set a size limit for the cache, preventing it from growing uncontrollably in the future.
Important: Clearing the cache does not delete your media. Photos and videos will remain in your chats and can be downloaded again when you need them.
WhatsApp: Managing Heavy Files
WhatsApp does not have a button to clear the cache, but it offers a manager that helps you find and delete large and unnecessary files.
- In WhatsApp, go to Settings > Storage and Data.
- Tap on Manage Storage.
- The app will show the files “Larger than 5 MB” and also which conversations are taking up more space. You can review and delete videos, photos, and documents that you no longer need to keep.
Golden Tip: To prevent WhatsApp from saving all photos and videos to your iPhone gallery, go to Settings > Chats and turn off the “Save to Photos” option.
The Final Trick for Instagram, TikTok, and Other Apps
For most other apps that do not have a cleaning tool, the solution is a bit more radical, but equally effective: delete and reinstall the app.
- Go to Settings > General > iPhone Storage.
- Tap on the app that is taking up a lot of space (like Instagram, for example).
- Choose the Delete App option (the red button). Attention: do not confuse with “Uninstall App,” which keeps the data and does not solve the problem.
- Go to the App Store and download the app again.
When reinstalled, the app will return to its original size, free of all accumulated cache. You will need to log in again, but all your profile data and posts will be safe in the cloud. By doing this with 3 or 4 “heavy” apps, you can easily free up more than 15 GB on your iPhone.
