Multinational Nestlé Plans to Acquire Over 100 Electric Cars for Its Transportation Fleet
Following in the footsteps of other major companies in the sustainability sector, multinational Nestlé announced this Monday (26) that it will make a series of investments to change its logistics operation in Brazil. One of the first steps of the multinational in this long journey will be a new fleet with 100 electric cars by the end of 2022.

Nestlé Decides to Join the Fight for Carbon Reduction
In total, Nestlé will invest approximately R$ 15 million in this initiative, which, according to the multinational, is expected to reduce around 5,700 tons of CO2 annually, as electric cars emit no greenhouse gases. It is worth noting that GNV-powered vehicles reduce emissions by 15%, and biofuel-powered vehicles reduce emissions by 90%.
The multinational Nestlé expects that, at this initial stage, about 10% of its fleet will be composed of the well-known electric cars, but the plan is to achieve, by 2050, a fleet entirely made up of electric vehicles, reaching zero emissions of pollutants.

Statement from Nestlé on the Initiative and New Investments in the Electric Car Market
According to Nestlé’s VP of Logistics, Marcelo Nascimento, although sustainable logistics is a challenging endeavor for a country with a complex infrastructure like Brazil, the multinational aims to encourage the electric car sector so that other companies feel more confident in doing the same.
He also states that Nestlé understands that its role is important as a major national and global company, encouraging changes throughout its supply chain, enabling its suppliers and society to evolve alongside the company, delivering products safely, with quality and sustainability to its consumers.
The Investment Includes All of the Multinational’s Factories
Demonstrating that the initiative will not be focused solely on Brazil, Nestlé has already put its first electric cars into operation in Portugal. The multinational’s intention is that by the end of 2024, the fleet will consist of 465 electric cars. Additionally, 72 electric car charging stations have been installed at various Nestlé facilities in the country.
With this adaptation, the multinational’s estimate in Portugal is that the reduction of carbon dioxide emitted annually will be 1,800 tons, which should bring the brand closer to the highly sought-after zero carbon emissions desired by Nestlé in the coming years. Even with the pandemic, the company has managed to maintain strong growth in sales this year, with the third quarter of 2020 showing surprising sales results with a 4.9% organic growth.
