Naturgy Investment Drives Expansion of Natural Gas Sector in Rio de Janeiro.
Considered one of the main natural gas distributors in the state of Rio de Janeiro, Naturgy announced a significant investment of R$ 672.3 million over the next two years. The amount will be allocated to the construction of gas pipelines and the expansion of infrastructure, ensuring greater safety and efficiency in the supply of piped fuel.
According to Naturgy, this investment will not only optimize the distribution of natural gas but will also benefit 18 municipalities in Rio de Janeiro. The forecast is that the expansion of infrastructure will positively impact the local economy, promoting the generation of direct and indirect jobs.
Construction of Gas Pipelines Boosts Economy and Expands Access to Natural Gas
For Katia Repsold, country manager of Naturgy in Brazil, the construction of new gas pipelines is one of the main pillars of this investment by Naturgy.

The expansion of the network will allow the connection of new customers, reaching areas that previously did not have access to piped natural gas.
With this initiative, Naturgy aims to improve the safety of the distribution system, increase supply capacity, and enable the arrival of natural gas to new regions of the state.
The project will also contribute to the development of industrial hubs, as the infrastructure will facilitate the use of a cleaner and more efficient energy source.
“With these investments, we will increase the safety of the distribution system, allow the connection of new customers, and serve new areas of the state of Rio de Janeiro. Moreover, the projects will stimulate the economy of the cities benefited by the creation of direct and indirect jobs and by the development of industrial hubs that will have access to a cleaner energy source,” said Repsold.
Sustainable Corridors: Naturgy Bets on Energy Transition
Among the initiatives included in Naturgy’s investment is the expansion of Sustainable Corridors. This strategy aims to encourage the use of compressed natural gas (CNG) in heavy vehicles, promoting the substitution of diesel with a less polluting alternative.
Currently, Naturgy already has 11 adapted stations on the Presidente Dutra and Washington Luís highways. According to Repsold, the plan now is to expand this infrastructure to other highways, such as RJ-106, which links municipalities from Baixada Litorânea to North Fluminense and the state of Espírito Santo.
This expansion will allow cities like Araruama to receive natural gas, with the potential to serve over 48,000 homes, 150 commercial establishments, and 21 small industries.
By investing in the construction of gas pipelines and the modernization of distribution infrastructure, Naturgy reaffirms its commitment to sustainable development and energy efficiency.
The company intends to continue exploring new opportunities to expand its market, providing quality energy to a growing number of consumers.
