Incident Involving Vessel B.A.P. Ucayali and Perenco Oil Platform Left at Least 2 Dead and 1 Missing Near the Mouth of the Napo River in Peru.

A serious collision involving a military vessel and an industrial structure occurred in the Peruvian Amazon region. A ship from the Peruvian Navy collided with an oil platform operated by the company Perenco. The accident resulted in at least two confirmed deaths. One person is still missing. The Ministry of Defense of Peru released information about the incident this Friday (2).

The collision happened near the mouth of the Napo River, in a river in the Amazon region of Peru. The vessel involved is the B.A.P. Ucayali, belonging to the Peruvian Navy. According to the Ministry of Defense, the ship was navigating the area during a transit operation when the crash with the oil platform occurred.

Victims and Rescue on the Oil Platform

The consequences of the collision were tragic. At least two crew members of the military vessel were killed. In addition to the confirmed deaths, one crew member is missing. An immediate search and rescue operation was launched following the incident. Thirty crew members were safely rescued. The search for the missing person was ongoing at the time the official statement was released.

Serious Damage and Investigation Underway by the Navy

The Ministry of Defense of Peru reported that the collision caused “serious damage”. The official statement did not specify the exact nature or extent of this damage, nor whether it affected the ship or the oil platform. Peruvian authorities have already begun an investigation. The goal is to determine the exact causes that led to the collision between the military vessel and the Perenco structure.

Official Reaction of Peru and Position of Perenco Company

In an official statement, the Peruvian Ministry of Defense expressed deep sorrow for the lost lives. “The Navy of Peru deeply regrets the irreplaceable loss of our crew members”, stated the agency. The company Perenco, operator of the oil platform involved in the accident, was not immediately available to comment on the matter when the first information was released by the Peruvian government.
