The collision happened near the mouth of the Napo River, in a river in the Amazon region of Peru. The vessel involved is the B.A.P. Ucayali, belonging to the Peruvian Navy. According to the Ministry of Defense, the ship was navigating the area during a transit operation when the crash with the oil platform occurred.
Victims and Rescue on the Oil Platform
The consequences of the collision were tragic. At least two crew members of the military vessel were killed. In addition to the confirmed deaths, one crew member is missing. An immediate search and rescue operation was launched following the incident. Thirty crew members were safely rescued.
