The new Chevrolet Sonic arrives in Brazil as a compact SUV manufactured in Gravataí (RS), with a 115 hp 1.0 turbo engine, integrated 8 and 11-inch screens, and an AI-powered safety package. Prices start at R$ 129,990.
General Motors stirred the national automotive scene on Thursday (7) with the official launch of the Chevrolet Sonic. The model, which revives an emblematic name for the brand, now reappears as a compact SUV, strategically positioned between the future Onix Activ and the Tracker.
Manufactured in Gravataí (RS), the utility vehicle arrives with the mission to face consolidated rivals using a recipe that blends design inspired by the Equinox EV, a recalibrated turbo engine, and a technological package focused on active safety.
Available in two top-of-the-line versions, the vehicle can already be found in the dealership network with special launch conditions, as reported by g1.

Chevrolet Sonic’s “Virtual Cockpit”
Inside the Chevrolet Sonic, Chevrolet is betting big on digitalization to attract young and connected audiences. The dashboard features the new Virtual Cockpit System, composed of two integrated screens: an 8-inch instrument cluster and an 11-inch MyLink multimedia center.

The setup is driver-oriented, creating a modern environment reinforced by LED strips that cross the dashboard and doors.
In addition to visual technology, the SUV offers practical features for everyday use:
- Full connectivity with native Wi-Fi and OnStar system;
- New aluminum pedals and steering wheel with the brand’s new global logo;
- Optimized space, with a 392-liter trunk;
- Premium finish inherited from the Tracker, including blue details and minimalist icons.
Reinforced engineering and SUV dynamics
Despite sharing the GEM platform with the Onix, the Chevrolet Sonic underwent significant structural evolution. The brand’s engineering applied reinforcements to the bodywork to increase rigidity, allowing the car to better handle its elevated height.
With 20 cm of ground clearance, the model was calibrated to offer the comfort of an SUV without losing steering precision.

Ricardo Fanucchi, engineering director at GM South America, highlighted the technical work:
“The structural base evolved to match this proposal. The platform and body elements were reinforced, increasing rigidity and allowing for more precise suspension and steering calibrations.”
Versions, prices, and turbo performance of the new Chevrolet Sonic
The Chevrolet Sonic arrives in two configurations that prioritize technological content and a distinctive look. The engine is the well-known 1.0-liter three-cylinder turbo, but it received a specific adjustment to deliver 115 hp of power and 18.9 kgfm of torque.
The transmission is always a six-speed automatic, ensuring 0 to 100 km/h acceleration in around 10 seconds.
The prices and variants available at launch are:
- Sonic Premier (R$ 129,990): Focus on sophistication, with a slatted front grille and chrome details.
- Sonic RS (R$ 135,990): Sporty appeal, with glossy black finishes, exclusive 17-inch wheels, and automatic parking system.
Therefore, consumers looking for economy will find an efficient SUV. With the help of the start-stop system, the model records highway averages of 14.8 km/l with gasoline and 10.4 km/l with ethanol.
Advanced safety with artificial intelligence
One of the biggest pillars of the new Chevrolet Sonic is the Chevrolet Intelligent Driving package. The system uses a high-definition front camera with a coverage area 40% larger than previous models.
This technology is capable of identifying cyclists and pedestrians to automatically activate driving assistance systems.
The safety package includes the following standard items:
- Automatic emergency braking and forward collision alert;
- Lane keeping assist with departure warning;
- Adaptive high beam (exclusive for highways);
- Blind spot monitoring and six protective airbags.
Exterior design and exclusive visual identity
Visually, Chevrolet’s coupe SUV stands out with its strong lines and split LED optical assembly. In the RS version, the darkened grille combines with the brand’s new bowtie emblem, which can be optionally illuminated.

The 17-inch wheels are standard on all versions, reinforcing the robust stance of the vehicle, which measures 4.23 meters in length. Thus, the rear features a sloped roof with a black spoiler, giving the Sonic a unique personality that sets it apart from traditional hatchbacks.
The license plate positioned on the bumper cleans up the look of the tailgate, completing a harmonious aesthetic for the Chevrolet Sonic.
