Measure announced by Lula foresees blocking the CPF of Novo Desenrola Brasil participants on betting sites for one year, while the program offers discounts, limited interest, and the use of FGTS to renegotiate debts
The CPF blocked on betting sites for one year will be applied to indebted Brazilians who join the Novo Desenrola Brasil, a measure announced by Lula this Thursday (30/4), in an official statement broadcast on radio and television.
Blocked CPF targets online betting
The action is part of the package of measures presented by President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva and directly targets the use of online betting platforms.
According to the announced proposal, citizens who enter the Novo Desenrola Brasil will have their CPF prevented from operating on betting sites for a period of one year.

The stated objective is to prevent amounts released or saved through debt restructuring from being directed to bets, a practice identified by the government as a risk for financially strained families.
Renegotiation seeks to relieve indebted families
During the speech, Lula stated that it is unacceptable to renegotiate a debt and continue losing money on bets. The statement justified the temporary blocking of the CPF on the platforms.
The initiative comes as a response to the growing indebtedness of Brazilian families. The president stated that family debt has increased for years and today suffocates part of Brazilian society.
The Novo Desenrola Brasil appears in the set of actions treated by the government as a banner of Lula’s re-election campaign, focusing on reorganizing the finances of indebted people.
Interest, discounts, and longer terms
The program will allow renegotiating different types of debts, including credit card, overdraft, revolving credit, personal loans, and Fies debts.
Among the detailed points is the establishment of an interest cap of up to 1.99% per month on renegotiations. There will also be discounts between 30% and 90% on the total amount owed.
The extension of payment terms also integrates the package. The combination of limited interest, discounts, and longer terms seeks to further facilitate the settlement of debts included in the program.
FGTS may be used for payment
Another foreseen measure allows participants to withdraw up to 20% of their Severance Indemnity Fund (FGTS) balance to help settle debts.
The use of FGTS was presented as additional support for those who join the Novo Desenrola Brasil and try to reorganize their budget.
With the CPF blocked for betting, the government intends to prevent resources linked to renegotiation from being diverted to bets and aggravating the financial situation of families.
