Moen’s smart shower turns on by voice, heats before the bath, uses customized presets, and controls temperature via mobile phone.

The traditional shower, based on mechanical valve, manual temperature adjustment, and waiting for the water to heat up, has begun to undergo a silent transformation. In the United States, Moen has created a smart shower system that replaces conventional commands with digital control, voice commands, automation, and app-based customization.

The Moen Smart Shower system, also known as U by Moen Smart Shower, functions as a connected shower platform. Instead of just turning on the water, the user can program the exact temperature, create personalized profiles, turn on the shower remotely, control different water outlets, and even ask virtual assistants to start the shower automatically.

Moen’s smart shower transforms the bath into an app-controlled system

Moen’s concept goes beyond a common electric shower or digital heater. The system uses a Wi-Fi connected digital valve and an electronic controller installed on the bathroom wall.

According to Moen, the Smart Shower can be controlled in three ways: directly on the digital panel installed in the bathroom, via the smartphone app, or by voice commands using Amazon Alexa, Apple HomeKit/Siri, and Google Assistant.

In practice, the bathroom no longer relies solely on mechanical valves. The shower functions as a connected device within the smart home.

System allows turning on the shower by voice before entering the bathroom

One of the product’s most aggressive features is remote activation. Moen’s app allows you to start the shower before entering the bathroom, while the system automatically heats up to the temperature set by the user.

The app also allows creating custom presets for different people and situations. The user can save temperature, intensity, shower time, and specific water outlets for each profile.

Moen states that the system supports up to 12 custom presets, including name, temperature, timer, and individual settings.

Moen’s smart shower heats water before the bath and pauses automatically

The system also uses an automatic pre-heating feature. According to Moen, the shower can heat up to the chosen temperature and then pause the flow until the user enters the stall.

This function attempts to solve a classic problem of traditional bathing: letting the water run until it reaches the ideal temperature. The company’s proposal is to improve comfort and reduce water waste.

The app also allows programming alerts when the shower is ready, as well as adjusting the temperature remotely in one-degree increments.

Digital control replaces manual faucet and adjusts temperature with precision

In a common shower, temperature adjustment usually depends on manual mixing between hot and cold water. The Smart Shower replaces this system with digital electronic control.

According to Moen, the digital valve allows controlling temperatures between 60 °F and 120 °F, equivalent to approximately 15.5 °C and 48.8 °C, with precise degree-by-degree adjustment.

The panel also changes color according to the configured temperature, shifting from blue to red as the water heats up.

This level of precision brings the shower closer to the digital climate control logic used in premium cars and automated residential systems.

System controls multiple water outlets within the stall

The Smart Shower was also designed for more sophisticated bathrooms. Some versions control up to four independent water outlets, including the main shower, handheld shower, side sprays, and cascades.

Through the app, the user can activate or deactivate each outlet separately. This allows for creating different settings for a quick shower, relaxing shower, or simultaneous use of multiple water jets.

Moen also offers versions with integration for two or four distinct hydraulic zones, depending on the bathroom installation.

Voice commands bring Alexa, Siri, and Google Assistant into the bathroom

The system is designed to work with voice assistants. Moen reports compatibility with Alexa, Google Assistant, Apple HomeKit, and Siri.

This allows for commands such as starting the shower at a specific temperature or activating specific presets. The company’s own documentation shows examples like “Alexa, start my shower to 98 degrees” or activation of personalized modes.

In practice, the shower ceases to be just hydraulic and becomes part of the connected home ecosystem.

System attempts to transform showering into a personalized and automated experience

Moen positions the Smart Shower as a personalized shower experience. The presets can be configured for different times of the day, users, or specific routines, such as post-workout or relaxing shower.

The app also allows control of shower timer, notifications, and water-saving modes.

This detail shows how the company tries to change the very concept of the bathroom: instead of a purely hydraulic environment, it starts to function as a digital platform integrated into home automation.

Smart showers show that the bathroom has entered the era of the connected home

The smart home market has already transformed lighting, climate control, TVs, locks, and cameras. Now, automation begins to advance into one of the most traditional areas of the home: the shower.

The Smart Shower shows how even an extremely common item can become a smart device controlled by software, connectivity, and automation.

In the end, Moen’s product delivers a clear paradigm shift: the shower is no longer just a hot water point on the wall and becomes a configurable, connected, and personalized digital system.
