The New Generation of the Nissan Sentra May Hit the Market with a Change Capable of Redefining Its Role Among Mid-Size Sedans: The Adoption of the 1.5 Turbo Three-Cylinder Engine with 204 HP, Currently Used in the Rogue SUV
After anticipating details about the renewal of the Toyota Corolla, the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology of China (MIIT) drew attention again by accidentally releasing images of the new generation of the Nissan Sentra.
The leak revealed the complete design of the model and exposed important clues about its future mechanical configuration.
The photos show a bolder look, with headlights joined by an LED bar that runs across the front. Right below, there are vertical daytime running lights inspired by the “lion’s claws” style, originally popularized by Peugeot.

The bumper features a lower opening with unpainted details, creating contrast with the color of the body and reinforcing the sporty proposal of the sedan.
At the rear, the taillights are now interconnected by an LED strip, while the trunk lid features the “Sylphy” emblem, the name by which the Sentra is known in China.
The overall lines refer to other recent models from the brand, such as the new generation of the Murano and the electric sedans N6 and N7.
Rumors Indicate Adoption of the 1.5 Turbo Engine with 204 HP
Currently, the model is offered in China with a naturally aspirated 1.6 engine producing 137 HP and a CVT automatic transmission. In other markets, it uses the well-known 2.0 engine with 151 HP, also linked to the continuously variable transmission.
However, sources linked to Nissan indicate that a significant change may be approaching.
According to unofficial information, the automaker is studying equipping the Sentra with the 1.5 turbo three-cylinder engine with 204 HP that currently powers the Rogue SUV.
If confirmed, this engine would place the sedan in a higher performance tier compared to direct rivals like Toyota Corolla, Honda Civic, and BYD King.
In addition to the possible 1.5 turbo, there are indications that the company intends to expand the availability of the e-Power hybrid version, currently limited to a few markets.
The goal would be to diversify the portfolio and strengthen the model’s competitiveness in the mid-size sedan segment, which has been pressured by the growing popularity of SUVs.
Debut Expected in 2026 in Brazil
In China, the new generation of the Sentra is practically ready and should hit stores in the coming months. In North America, the official presentation is expected to occur in November during the Los Angeles Auto Show, with sales beginning in 2026.
In Brazil, the launch is also expected for next year.
Prototypes have been circulating for testing since March, signaling that Nissan is preparing the ground to compete with the main competitors in the segment.
If it adopts the new 1.5 turbo, the sedan could emerge as the most powerful option among traditional mid-size vehicles sold in the country.
