New Chinese Technology Promises Instant Charging for Electric Cars. Learn How the Technology from Chinese CATL Works That Promises to Change the Automotive Sector by 2030.
Charging time for batteries is undoubtedly one of the main obstacles to the popularity of electric cars. Even with powerful chargers available on the market, the process can take over an hour, limiting the practicality of these vehicles. However, the Chinese giant CATL has developed a new instant charging technology for electric cars.
Instant Charging for Electric Cars Is Not Something New
The Contemporary Amperex Technology (CATL), a Chinese giant in the battery sector, has developed a new innovative technology to solve the charging time problem.
The system allows for the exchange of drained batteries for charged ones, enabling instant charging for electric cars. The new advancement, which promises to revolutionize the sector, was presented during the Choco-Swap conference in Xiamen.

Customer crashes car during test drive and Court of Justice decides that the driver is not at fault, therefore, he does not have to pay for the damages.
The new electric car technology from the Chinese company promises to significantly reduce the charging time of electric cars. The quick exchange system allows batteries to be replaced in seconds, thus facilitating the use of the models, making it comparable to traditional refueling.
It is worth mentioning that this instant charging solution for electric cars is not entirely new; however, it has now been improved. Introduced in China in 2022, the approach has been scaled up to larger scales, such as standardized exchange stations aimed at facilitating adoption by manufacturers. CATL introduced two standardized batteries, models #20 and #25, which are adaptable to various vehicles using LFP and NMC technologies.
The #20 LFP version is made of lithium iron phosphate and has a capacity of 42 kWh, with a range of approximately 400 km. On the other hand, the #20 NMC variant provides 52 kWh and a range of up to 500 km, being made with cobalt oxide, manganese, nickel, and lithium. In the case of the #25 LFP battery, it offers 56 kWh and 500 km. The last option, #25 NMC, delivers a capacity of 70 kWh and a range of 600 km.
Benefits of the New Technology
The great advantage of the new technology lies in the time similar to traditional refueling. Instant charging for electric cars is advantageous for long trips and commercial fleets, where battery ownership is less important. Despite the novelty, the rapid replacement system may be temporary.
Experts believe that the advancement of ultrafast charging technologies and high energy density batteries will render the use of exchange stations unnecessary. CATL plans to inaugurate a thousand battery exchange stations in China by 2025 and reach 30,000 stations by 2030.
The subscription cost for the service is 369 yuan per month, approximately R$ 315. Thus, CATL’s innovation could transform electric vehicle charging. By reducing refueling time, the system promises to facilitate the adoption of these vehicles by global consumers.
Other Initiatives by CATL to Revolutionize the Electric Car Market
The joy of the promise of instant charging for electric cars faces some challenges. CATL’s plan has little chance of moving forward if governments do not invest in charging stations and automakers in standardizing batteries, considering that with so many different models circulating, implementation tends to be more complex.
However, on the contrary, if everything goes well, electric mobility could finally become a more practical and sustainable solution.
Keeping an eye on this evolution, CATL is creating a new technology for electric cars, as mentioned earlier. Interestingly, some experts claim that even exchange stations may soon become obsolete.

Muita tecnologia ainda está por vir nessa área. Para nós o calcanhar de Aquiles é o recarregamento, tempo e pontos dosponíveis a nível nacional. Resolvidp isso e a briga vai ser forte.
