Carlos Coelho Garcia Assumes Sindenergia/MT With Focus on Industrial Development and Electrical Infrastructure in Mato Grosso.

During the inauguration ceremony of the new president of Sindenergia/MT, the challenges and opportunities related to the energy potential in the state of Mato Grosso were highlighted. Carlos Coelho Garcia, the newly inaugurated leader, emphasized the need to address these issues with innovative strategies, aiming for the advancement of Small Hydroelectric Plants (SHPs). At the same time, he underscored the importance of providing quality energy that serves as a driver for the industrial growth of the state.

The leader expressed his commitment to removing obstacles that hinder the full utilization of Mato Grosso’s vast energy reserves, aiming not only for local progress but also for strengthening the electrical infrastructure. Reliable and accessible electricity is vital for industry and society. With a renewed team, the union of Construction, Generation, Transmission, and Distribution of Electricity and Gas in the State is determined to drive initiatives that place Mato Grosso at the forefront of energy sustainability.

Inauguration of the New Board of Sindenergia

The new term 2025/2027 of Sindenergia began its management with the inauguration ceremony on Thursday night (28), at the auditorium of the Federation of Industries of the State of Mato Grosso (FIEMT). This event brought a renewal of expectations for the energy sector in the state, with the presence of authorities, entrepreneurs, and political leaders. They highlighted the relevance of the union in the energy sector of Mato Grosso, in addition to discussing future challenges. Names such as the President of Fiemt, Silvio Rangel, and prominent political figures like the Chief Secretary of the Civil House Fábio Garcia and the Secretary of Economic Development, César Miranda, were present at the occasion.

The Energy Challenge of Mato Grosso

During his speech, the new president Carlos Coelho Garcia highlighted the continuous effort of the entity to improve the quality of the electricity that reaches industries. ‘We are proposing to Aneel a model of the electrical sector that takes into account regional specificities’, he stated. Mato Grosso, which has industrial growth above the national average, faces significant challenges in the electrical infrastructure, as the current model lacks the capacity to keep pace with such development. This issue represents a crucial bottleneck for industrial progress in the state. Another focus of the speech was the high cost of thermal power plants, which has impacted energy system costs.

Impacts and Solutions in the Electrical Sector

‘Energy from thermal power plants costs more than double that from SHPs, and this burden falls on the consumer through the tariff flags, affecting industrial competitiveness’, said Garcia. He emphasized the need for a model that prioritizes renewable and more economical sources, such as hydroelectric plants. The Chief Secretary of the Civil House, Fábio Garcia, addressed the mission of the new president: to ensure quality and safe energy, favoring the industrial development of Mato Grosso. ‘Despite abundant natural resources and potential in renewable sources, the state still suffers from limitations in electricity supply’, he added, pointing out insufficient infrastructure as a barrier to development.

Energy Matrix and Renewable Sources

Carlos Coelho Garcia emphasized the strategic role of the Brazilian electrical sector, whose energy matrix is one of the cleanest, with more than 80% of generation coming from renewable sources, mainly hydro. Still, Mato Grosso only exploits 10% of its considerable hydroelectric potential. ‘The state has unique geographical characteristics, such as the Guarani Aquifer and rocks suitable for water retention, which could support the most effective hydroelectric plants in the world, but it is hindered by an outdated model that does not take advantage of these capabilities’, he argued.

Clean Energy and Industrial Development

The president of Sindenergia underscored that Small Hydroelectric Plants (SHPs) can play a leading role in clean energy generation and job creation. However, their potential is curtailed by a lack of public policies. Garcia called for a model that values each energy source and learning in processes. ‘We are not advocating for the end of thermal plants but rather the harmonization of energy sources, with public policies that encourage the storage of hydro or solar electric energy’, concluded Garcia.

Legacy and Partnerships in Electrical Energy

The ceremony was also marked by tributes to the new president and his family for their history of contributions to the development of the state. For Silvio Rangel, president of FIEMT, Carlos Garcia represents the continuity of a significant family tradition. ‘He brings experienced leadership and strategic vision. FIEMT is ready to support the challenges of the electrical sector’, assured Rangel. State representative and former governor Júlio Campos advocated for collaboration with ANEEL, aiming to revise the current model. He praised Garcia’s emphasis on the importance of hydroelectric plants in the energy matrix and the necessary changes for the sector’s progress. Legislators such as Carlos Avalone and Gisela Simona also highlighted the importance of clean energy for economic growth.

‘Hydroelectric plants’, declared Campos, ‘are the backbone of our electrical energy matrix. We have resources desired by many but insufficiently exploited. It is fair to reverse this situation, especially for remote areas like Colniza.’

And concluded state representative Gisela Simona: ‘We need to ensure electricity of quality and fair prices, allowing Mato Grosso to continue to progress and consolidate itself as a national and international example.’
