New Top-of-the-Line SUV Coupe Version Arrives with Dark Visual, 130 HP Turbo Engine and a Market Positioning That Promises to Challenge Direct Competition.

The compact SUV market in Brazil has just gained a new and bold competitor with the arrival of the Basalt Dark Edition 2026. Citroën has officially launched its new top-of-the-line version, which bets on a sporty design and exclusive finishing to stand out. With an official price of R$ 114,990, the model comes with an aggressive value proposition, targeting consumers who seek style and performance without compromising their budget.

This launch, analyzed firsthand by the Auto Ignição channel, reveals a clear strategy from the brand: to offer a package of equipment and robust turbo engine, wrapped in a differentiated aesthetic. The version positions itself not only as the most complete in the Basalt family but also as a more affordable alternative to direct rivals, such as the Fiat Pulse in its more equipped configurations.

Design and Finishing: The “Dark” Proposal in Practice

The main differentiator of the Basalt Dark Edition 2026 lies in its visual appeal. Citroën has virtually eliminated all chrome details, replacing them with a high gloss black and satin gray finish, present in the front grille, brand chevrons and the “Turbo 200” and “Basalt” badges on the rear. As highlighted by the Auto Ignição channel, this choice gives the car a more sober and sporty appearance, especially in the Artense Gray color, which enhances the contrasts.

To break the monotony, the version incorporates vibrant red or orange details, seen in discreet appliqués on the bumper and sides. The 16-inch alloy wheels also feature darkened paint, fitted with 205/60 tires, which ensure a good profile to absorb road irregularities. The black roof, combined with the rear spoiler, completes the ensemble. Inside, the dark finishing continues, with premium upholstered seats, exclusive sill plates and mats for the version, in addition to a dashboard that, although it uses hard plastic, features a central strip with a soft-touch material.

Engine and Performance: The Known Turbo 200 in Action

Under the hood, the Basalt Dark Edition 2026 is equipped with the already well-known Stellantis T200 1.0 Turbo Flex engine. This three-cylinder engine delivers 130 hp of power with ethanol and 125 hp with gasoline, with a robust torque of 20.4 kgf·m available at low RPM (1,750 rpm). The setup is paired with a CVT automatic transmission that simulates seven speeds, with the option for sequential shifts on the lever and a “Sport” mode that alters the response of the accelerator and the transmission.

According to the official data from Inmetro, the model’s fuel consumption is competitive. With ethanol, the averages are 8.3 km/l in the city and 9.6 km/l on the highway. When fueled with gasoline, the numbers rise to 11.9 km/l in urban cycles and 13.7 km/l on the highway. Although the project includes drum brakes at the rear—a common solution for cost reduction in the segment—the performance of the turbo engine is one of its main attractions, offering agility both in urban traffic and during overtaking.

Internal Space and Technology On Board

The interior of the Citroën Basalt balances simple materials with a modern technological package, standing out for its generous space for passengers and the dual digital screens in the dashboard and multimedia center.

One of the greatest assets of the C-Cubed platform, on which the Basalt is built, is the excellent utilization of internal space. The SUV coupe offers surprising space for rear seat passengers, with generous leg and headroom even for taller adults. The trunk also impresses, with a capacity of 490 liters, one of the largest in the category, ideal for families.

In terms of technology, the Basalt Dark Edition 2026 brings a complete package. The instrument panel is a 7-inch digital display, configurable and with good resolution. The Citroën Connect multimedia center features a 10.25-inch screen with wireless mirroring for Android Auto and Apple CarPlay. The model also includes digital air conditioning, rearview camera, parking sensors, and a unique feature for rear comfort, two USB-C ports for rear passengers, as noted in the analysis by Auto Ignição.

A Package of Style with an Aggressive Price

The Citroën Basalt Dark Edition 2026 arrives on the market as a smart option for those seeking a striking design SUV, good performance, and a fully-equipped package, without having to pay the price of more expensive models. It balances its strengths—turbo engine, generous internal space, and exclusive visual—with project simplification solutions, such as halogen headlights and rear drum brakes, to keep its final price competitive.

The top-of-the-line version solidifies Citroën’s statement that it is indeed possible to combine style, performance, and aggressive cost-benefit. It not only completes the Basalt range but also poses a direct challenge to competitors, forcing the market to rethink its pricing and content strategies.

And what do you think of the Basalt Dark Edition 2026? Do you believe that the dark visual and competitive price are enough for it to stand out in the segment? Leave your opinion in the comments; we want to know what you think about this new bet from Citroën.
