Petrobras Increased Safety Measures in Its Offshore Units After Several State Employees Tested Positive for Covid-19
Petrobras stated in a note that, after the increase in cases of employees infected with Covid-19 on its platforms, the company decided to enhance safety measures by once again minimizing the number of offshore workers. After another four platforms in the Campos Basin recorded dozens of cases of the disease, unions from this category requested additional coronavirus prevention measures.

In April and May, considered the peak of the pandemic in the country, the company reduced the number of workers on its platforms, also decreasing its oil production, but gradually returned to normal conditions until new outbreaks occurred.
According to the latest Covid-19 monitoring announcement issued by the Ministry of Mines and Energy (MME), of the 45,403 employees of state-owned companies, 2,872 were infected and 3 died. Of this total, 2,624 have already recovered.

In a statement, Petrobras says, “The workforce on board the platforms, rigs, and other vessels will be reduced to the minimum necessary for the safe operation of each unit. The enforcement of adherence to prevention regulations is also being intensified across all operational maritime units or on land, with audits at least twice a week in all units and immediate correction of any deviations.”
Petrobras reinforced actions already taken, such as 350,000 tests conducted, pre-boarding and pre-shift monitoring, sanitary conditions, distancing, and mandatory use of masks.
The National Institute of Public Health (ENSP) of the Oswaldo Cruz Foundation (Fiocruz) issued a report in October, demonstrating the incidence of Covid-19 cases – expressed as an incidence rate per 100,000 infected cases, being more than double the frequency recorded in the Brazilian population.
