Why is Paraná standing out as the richest state in Brazil? With a billion-dollar GDP, Paraná is consolidating itself as the national economic jewel and a world reference in innovation.

Paraná is becoming the economic jewel of Brazil and is a state in the South of Brazil that currently stands out as one of the economic engines of the nation, especially for combining a solid economic base and focusing on some of the most demanded sectors nationally and internationally. Understand why Paraná is becoming the richest state in Brazil.

What does Paraná currently have to make it a leader?

Paraná is becoming the economic jewel of Brazil and the state's GDP, valued at R$705 billion, has been growing above the national average over the last 5 years, making Paraná the fourth largest economy among Brazilian states.

Furthermore, its 11,4 million inhabitants enjoy a good quality of life, the result of efficient public policies, investments in education and health, as well as a robust infrastructure that contributes to well-organized cities.

In this aspect, Paraná is an example, as it has the fifth best human development index in the country, with its capital Curitiba being considered one of the best destinations for the elderly and elected the smartest city in the world at the World Smart City Awards in 2023, due to its innovative projects and strategies, which stimulate sustainable urban development and show why Paraná is becoming the richest STATE in Brazil.

Why is Paraná becoming the richest state in Brazil?

Since the 60s, when the state was a leader in coffee production, it began to diversify its agricultural production beyond coffee, investing in crops such as soybeans, corn and wheat, which proved to be more profitable and more stable.

Economic diversification also enabled the modernization of the agricultural sector and opened space for the industrialization of the state, which went from an economy dependent on a single commodity to becoming one of the main agricultural and industrial hubs in Brazil, with a much more solid and diversified economic base.

With this in mind, a large part of Paraná's industries were built based on agricultural derivatives, in the context of an agro-export economy. This was enough to attract industrial investments to the state in the last decades of the 20th century, which not only diversified the sector but also boosted public and private investments.

A good example of why Paraná is becoming the richest state in Brazil is the constant infrastructure works such as the construction and modernization of highways, ports and hydroelectric plants, including the binational Itaipu hydroelectric plant, inaugurated in 1984 and is one of the largest hydroelectric plants in the world.

Paraná becomes Brazil's economic jewel with incentives

This process can also include the rise of important industrial zones throughout the state during this period, such as Curitiba, Londrina and Maringá, which emerged as important industrial hubs in the automotive, food, chemical and paper and cellulose sectors, playing a strategic role in the growth of the economy and showing why Paraná is the richest state in Brazil.

These already offer sufficient structure for the creation of environments conducive to entrepreneurship and the development of innovative businesses. One of the highlights that make Paraná stand out is its strategic location, which makes the state a major recipient of goods and people that drive its economy.

Furthermore, the state becomes the economic jewel of Brazil through the Port of Paranaguá, which is one of the busiest in the country and by far the largest bulk port in Latin America. Under these conditions, Paraná combines connectivity and efficient logistics infrastructure in an area of interest to many sides.

The State of Paraná (PR) is certainly an example of good governance and public policies that allow Business Owners to hire workers to produce efficiently in all sectors of the economy. The State of Paraná is a land of people who WORK and do not want to be dependent on the STATE.
The State of PR – and I include Santa Catarina, among others in the Center-South Region of the Country – is an example for the entire Country.

Paraná also has the most expensive tolls in the country, with irregular and potholed roads
