On Friday afternoon (9), a plane crash involving a Voepass Linhas Aéreas plane, formerly known as Passaredo, shook the Vinhedo region, in the interior of São Paulo.

The aircraft, a model ATR-72, carried 58 passengers and four crew members on a flight that departed from Cascavel, Paraná, bound for Guarulhos International Airport, in São Paulo.

According to data from the National Civil Aviation Agency (Anac), this type of plane holds up to 68 passengers and is widely used on regional flights in Brazil.

The incident occurred in the Capela neighborhood area, close to the Miguel Melhado de Campos highway (SP-324). The plane crashed at around 13:28 pm, as reported by the Military Police to EPTV.

The exact location of the fall was inside the Recanto Florido residential condominium, leaving residents in a panic. Rescue teams, including the Fire Department, Civil Defense and Military Police, were quickly mobilized, with hospitals in the neighboring cities of Vineyard and Valinhos in readiness to receive possible wounded.

The tragedy that unfolded this afternoon takes on an even more worrying context when we remember the recent video posted on the channel Estevam Pelo Mundo, on YouTube. Recorded just 11 days ago, the video provides a detailed analysis by the YouTuber of Voepass and the aircraft model involved in the accident. Estevam, known for his travels and detailed analysis of aerial experiences, highlighted some points that now seem prescient, given the events that followed.

Alert in the video on the Estevam Pelo Mundo channel

In the published video, Estevam mentioned his concerns about the voepass, a company that has undergone several transformations over the years, including a name change. He highlighted aircraft maintenance as a point of attention, suggesting that fleet aging and flight frequency could impact operational safety.

“The ATR-72 is an aircraft widely used on regional flights, especially by smaller companies like Voepass,” said the YouTuber. “Although it is reliable, constant maintenance is crucial to ensure passenger safety.”

Estevam pointed out that although the company follows international safety standards, the financial limitations of smaller airlines can compromise the quality of preventative maintenance.

Another point that caught attention in the video was the detailed description of the model. ATR-72. Estevam explained that the plane, as a turboprop, is more economical for short flights, however, it presents specific challenges in terms of operation and maintenance.

He mentioned that the ATR-72 requires special care with the landing gear and flight control systems, areas that, if not well monitored, can lead to critical failures.

Relevance of Estevam’s observations

The connection between the accident and the observations made in the video becomes even more relevant when we consider Voepass' history and the model's operations ATR-72.

Estevam, in his analysis, mentioned that he had flown in a plane of the same model recently and reported experiencing marked turbulence during landing.

He suggested that, despite being common on regional flights, These turbulences could be an indication of wear on the plane's components, especially on older aircraft..

“It is important for airlines to carry out regular reviews and invest in technology to detect problems before they happen,” said Estevam in the video.

“As passengers, we must be aware that older planes may present more risks, especially if operated by companies facing financial difficulties.”

This video, recorded with the aim of informing and warning passengers about precautions when choosing flights on smaller aircraft, now takes on a new dimension after the accident. Estevam wasn't just sharing a flying experience; he was offering a warning about safety issues that often go unnoticed by passengers.

Impact of the Voepass accident and investigations

With the accident, authorities have already started an investigation to determine the causes of the fall. Aviation experts point out that the weather condition at the time of the accident may have been a contributing factor, but they do not rule out the possibility of mechanical failure.

O Aviation Accident Investigation and Prevention Center (Cenipa) is mobilized to analyze the aircraft's wreckage and black boxes, which are essential to reconstruct the final moments of the flight.

According to sources close to the investigation, one of the hypotheses is that a failure in the landing gear occurred, as mentioned by Estevam in his video. However, Voepass issued a note stating that all maintenance was up to date and that the aircraft involved in the accident underwent a complete overhaul just two months ago. The company also stated that it is fully cooperating with the authorities to clarify the facts.
