Duplication of BR-153/SP Starts with Investment of R$ 550 Million. Project Will Reduce Accidents, Improve Freight Transport, and Boost Regional Economy
The duplication of BR-153 in São Paulo has come to fruition. On Friday (29/9), the National Agency for Land Transportation (ANTT) and the concessionaire Triunfo Transbrasiliana signed the Work Order to begin construction on the stretch from Icém, on the border with Minas Gerais, to São José do Rio Preto, covering 51.7 kilometers between km 0 and km 51.7.
The ceremony was attended by municipal, state, and federal authorities as well as the Federal Highway Police, reinforcing the strategic nature of the intervention.

Work began on August 25, with cleaning and vegetation suppression services in the right-of-way. All activities comply with environmental legislation.

The total investment will be R$ 550 million, with an estimated completion time of four years.
The expectation is to transform the stretch into a safer, more modern, and efficient road, benefiting drivers and the transport of goods.
Structure Planned for Lot 01
The project includes the complete duplication of 51.7 km, the construction of four bridges, and one pedestrian overpass.
In addition, 12 grade-separated interchanges and three at-grade accesses are planned, enhancing mobility and safety.
Four grade-separated U-turns and three wildlife crossings will also be implemented, ensuring environmental preservation. Two existing special artworks will undergo expansion and modernization.
Direct and Indirect Benefits
The duplication meets an old demand in the region. The intervention should reduce accidents, decrease travel time, and increase the efficiency of freight transport.
Another important aspect is the integration with strategic highways such as Washington Luís (SP-310) and Assis Chateaubriand (SP-425), enhancing connectivity in the interior of São Paulo.
In addition to improvements for users, the work is expected to generate direct and indirect jobs, stimulate the local economy, and increase tax revenue.
Nearby municipalities will have new opportunities in commerce, services, and logistics.
For ANTT, the signing of the Work Order reinforces the commitment to a safer, more competitive, and transparent road infrastructure.
