MME Forecasts Production of 500 Thousand Barrels Per Day of Oil and Natural Gas in 2030 in the Brazilian Onshore with Adopted Measures
During the launch of the Reate 2020 program, which will revitalize the Brazilian Onshore, on last Thursday (08/22), the Minister of Mines and Energy, Bento Albuquerque, declared that Brazil will reach a production of 500 thousand barrels per day of oil and natural gas by 2030 and will create 700 thousand new jobs.
The numbers are based on the increase in investments, according to the minister, from R$ 1.6 billion annually to around R$ 4 billion per year, thanks to the creation of the new gas market and the launch of the Reate 2020 program.
The Revitalization Program for Oil and Natural Gas Exploration and Production Activities in Terrestrial Areas (Reate 2020) aims to unlock investments in the sector that will reach R$ 40 billion by 2030.

Discussions will include representatives from the Ministries of Mines and Energy, Economy, Civil House, EPE, Abipip, IBP, Firjan, and Onip. One of the measures will seek to simplify, expedite, and keep the industry permanently open to technological innovation and will be the responsibility of EPE (Energy Research Company) to identify and monetize the production potential of onshore gas in Brazil, as well as the licensing discussion with the participation of Ibama.
In alignment with the government’s perspective of having a low-cost energy source to boost the country’s economic development, there are already successful projects using onshore gas for energy production.
Eneva has the Gaviões Park project, a natural gas and energy production hub in the Parnaíba Basin, and Imetame is operating the fields of Cardeal Amarelo and Cardeal Nordeste, both in the Recôncavo Basin, which will supply natural gas to the Prosperidade I thermal plant, with a capacity to produce 28 MW and located in the city of Camaçari, Bahia.
Alvopetro will build an 11 km gas pipeline to connect the Caburé field in Camaçari (BA), allowing the transport of natural gas to Bahiagás, the state distributor.
According to ANP, the mature terrestrial basins (Espírito Santo, Potiguar, Recôncavo, Sergipe, and Alagoas) produced 103.6 Mboe/day in June, comprising 81.9 barrels per day of oil and 3.5 million m³/day of natural gas, with 97.1 thousand boe/day produced by Petrobras.
