The Opening of the Gas Market Took Its Most Important Step, with the Signing of the Decree for the Creation of the Gas Market Monitoring Committee.
An event yesterday (07/23), at the Palácio do Planalto, attended by authorities, lawmakers, company representatives, public agency leaders, among other sectors of the industry, marked the launch of the program called “New Gas Market”.
The ceremony was attended by the Minister of Mines and Energy, Bento Albuquerque, and President Jair Bolsonaro, who signed the Decree that creates the Gas Market Monitoring Committee.
The committee will be responsible for monitoring the resolution of the National Energy Policy Council (CNPE), signed at the end of June, which imposes rules for the entry of new players into existing infrastructure, aiming to foster the natural gas market and prevent cartels.

The Role of the NGM
With the “New Gas Market”, the government hopes to improve the utilization of pre-salt gas from the Sergipe/Alagoas Basin and other discoveries, increase investments in gas transportation, processing, and distribution infrastructure, boost gas-fired power generation, and restore the competitiveness of industries that use gas as fuel.
The Ministry of Mines and Energy (MME) has established a timetable for the upcoming actions for the regulation of the New Gas Market, which forecasts that the work at the ANP will be carried out from 2020 to 2023, thus requiring four years to complete this transition.
To do this, the ANP will focus on the natural gas transportation system and will establish rules for the charging of transportation tariffs and regulations to allow other players access to the distribution network.
