Candidate Selection Will Take Place Between May 23 and June 2

Do you want to change your life and work in one of the fastest-growing fields in Brazil and the world? Then your time has come. Samsung has partnered with the University of São Paulo (USP) and will offer 35 spots in a free training course in Software Development Engineering. The job market in this area is showing great promise and is in need of qualified professionals.

The course is completely remote, and you can do it from home. It will emphasize the Windows platform and has been developed by the Department of Computer Engineering and Digital Systems at the Polytechnic School of the University of São Paulo, with support from Samsung and the SiDi, one of the largest technology and science institutes in the country. The free technical courses have helped many people secure jobs after the pandemic.

What Is the Job Market Like for Software Development Professionals?

The field of systems analysis and development, as well as software engineering, is one of the fastest-growing in Brazil and worldwide in recent years. With the rise in technology usage after the Covid-19 pandemic, these professionals are increasingly in demand and are struggling to meet that demand.

After all, what does a software developer do? They build all the machinery behind the major applications and websites we know, such as Instagram, Google, and Facebook, for example. In other words, they use programming knowledge to make these resources work. They can also be responsible for user experience and software interface.

Research conducted by one of the largest job platforms in Brazil, Catho, indicated that between 2019 and 2020, there was a 107% increase in searches for professionals working in software development. Just this month of May, this platform has over 6,000 job openings in the field available.

The sector’s outlook is for growth. According to data from The Bureau of Labor Statistics, the U.S. Labor Statistics Office, the demand for these professionals is expected to grow by 21% by 2028.

Those working in Software Development, depending on the type of programming language and position held in the company, can earn more than R$7,000.00 and reach over R$15,000.00. And do you know what is even better? Most job openings, 91%, are for remote work. In other words, you earn a good salary while working from home.

How It Works and How to Apply for This Free Training Course?

The free training course offered by USP and Samsung will prepare selected students to work in various segments of software development. Check out what you will be able to learn if you participate in the course:

  • Programming in C# (basic and advanced);
  • Version control;
  • Introduction to cloud computing;
  • Agile methodologies for software development;
  • User experience (UX);
  • User interface development (UI);
  • Introduction to DevOps;
  • Secure programming.

The classes will be organized and taught by teachers with extensive backgrounds in Engineering and Software Development, and students will work on team projects under the mentorship of these specialists. Classes will take place every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday, running from 7 PM to 10 PM, starting from June 20. The duration is 5 months.

Who Can Apply?

To apply and compete for spots, prior knowledge in programming in C, C++, or Java is required, as well as knowledge of Object-Oriented Programming and English language skills. Additionally, you must be enrolled in a degree program or have completed a degree program within the last 2 years and be enrolled in a degree program or have completed a degree program in the field of engineering and/or IT (Information Technology).

Selection Process Steps

The selection process begins with registration on the website by filling out a form with your basic information. After confirming your registration, you will receive an email containing details about the basic knowledge test that will be conducted from June 7 to June 9. Finally, candidates with the highest scores will be selected to participate in the course. The results will be announced by June 13.

Samsung Director and USP Professor Comment on the Importance of Knowledge Updating for Software Development Professionals

Eduardo Conejo, innovation manager in the Research and Development area at Samsung, states that the company is seeking new professionals to converge the use of mobile devices with microcomputers through the Windows system. Thus, stimulating the training of professionals can be very interesting for generating developers aligned with what the company seeks and who may have promising job opportunities.

Jaime Simão Sichman, professor and chair of the Department of Computer Engineering and Digital Systems at the Polytechnic School of USP, emphasizes the importance of this partnership between company and university to align knowledge with practice and produce professionals directed towards specific specialties that the market is demanding.
