At the bottom of the sea, there are thousands of Christmas trees. It’s true. They are not green and are not used for decoration. They are equipment that can weigh up to nearly 90 tons used in the extraction of oil and gas.
These Christmas trees play an essential role in controlling the flow and output of oil and natural gas in onshore and offshore exploration wells.
The name’s unusual origin comes from the dry Christmas tree. In winter, in cold regions, the equipment filled with lights often gets covered in snow, leading some to see a resemblance to a giant Christmas tree. The name soon stuck.
