Corio and Prumo Form Strategic Partnership Toward the Energy Future of Brazil, Focusing on Offshore Wind Power Projects at the Port of Açu
Corio Generation, a subsidiary of the renowned Australian fund Macquarie, has taken a significant step towards the energy future of Brazil by closing a strategic agreement with Prumo, the company that controls the Port of Açu, located in Rio de Janeiro. This partnership aims primarily to develop offshore wind energy projects, marking Corio’s entry into this promising segment in the country, according to Uol.
The memorandum of understanding signed between Corio and Prumo establishes that the Port of Açu will be essential to support the activities of Corio’s future wind farms. The port infrastructure will be used for the movement of technicians and equipment, thus ensuring efficiency in energy generation at sea.
Synergies Beyond Expectations
In addition to the direct benefits of implementing wind farms at the Port of Açu, the partnership between Corio and Prumo promises to generate synergies that go beyond the traditional. The Port of Açu is consolidating as a hub for the development of innovative energy solutions, attracting industries interested in decarbonization.

Jonathan Cole, global CEO of Corio, emphasized the importance of investing in suitable ports for the development of offshore wind energy, highlighting the competitive advantage of the Port of Açu in this context. Rogério Zampronha, CEO of Prumo, pointed out the potential of the Port ecosystem, which already has an installed value chain ready to receive and distribute the generated energy.
Ambitious Offshore Plans at the Port of Açu
Founded in 2023, Corio already stands out as one of the world’s largest developers of offshore wind energy projects, with a portfolio exceeding 30 gigawatts across various global markets. In Brazil, the company has five projects in the initial phase of studies, totaling 6 GW of capacity and projected investments of 20 billion reais.
For the first offshore wind projects in Brazil to become a reality, it is crucial to advance the regulatory framework, as highlighted by Corio’s global CEO. The approval of the bill in April is awaited with anticipation, as it will pave the way for defining a long-term strategy for the source, including contracting the generated energy and the holding of periodic auctions.
With this strategic offshore partnership between Corio and Prumo, Brazil takes another step toward diversifying its energy matrix, reaffirming its commitment to sustainability and innovation in the offshore wind energy sector.
