A Public Offshore Wind Farm. For Many, This May Seem Like a Futuristic Plan, But This Is Exactly What You Are Reading. The News Has Already Been Inaugurated.
Currently, generating energy from wind farms has become popular in Brazil, especially in the Northeast region. However, the novelty presented in this article is not in Brazilian territory but in the United States.
This is because the first commercial-scale offshore wind farm was inaugurated in the United States. According to reports, this project, titled South Fork, began in January 2022 in the state of New York. Now, ready, the novelty can supply up to 70,000 households.
According to reports published by the American media, the construction of the public offshore wind farm was done by a Danish company called Ørsted in partnership with the American utility Eversource.

Brazilian scientists are simultaneously advancing two research projects on clean hydrogen and driving solutions that could transform the energy matrix, enhance industrial competitiveness, and accelerate large-scale emission reduction targets.

Advancement in renewable energy: A R$ 150 million project launched by Petrobras and Finep aims to create state-of-the-art electrolyzers for green hydrogen, strengthening national research and preparing Brazil to compete in a billion-dollar energy market.

Illiterate or semi-literate grandmothers were trained to repair solar systems, open rural workshops, and light up homes that still depended on kerosene.

The world has bet on green hydrogen as the fuel of the future, but now faces the side effect: producing 1 kilogram requires about 9 liters of ultrapure water, and the largest projects on the planet are precisely in the driest regions of the Earth, where water is already scarce for people.
Details About the Public Park
The South Fork Wind has a total of 12 turbines. These devices go out to sea and have the capacity to generate 132 megawatts of clean energy. According to the official website of the wind farm, two peninsulas: Long Island and Rockaways, located in New York, are already being supplied.
However, the maximum generation capacity has not yet been reached. In any case, the project has generated excitement, since it was initially planned that the initiative would generate much less energy than it is currently producing.
By the end of January, South Wind had achieved the mark of 50% installation, with six of the 12 turbines ready for use. As reported, this energy coming from the wind farm will be directly connected to the electrical grid in East Hampton, which is a neighborhood located in New York, via a single transmission line installed.
More Wind Energy in the U.S.
Wind energy production in the United States has seen a significant surge in recent years and promises to grow even more in the future. Evidence of this is that, recently, the government of President Joe Biden approved five offshore wind energy projects.
Among these projects is the Revolution Wind, which would be capable of supplying 350,000 people. These approvals align with the goal of the United States, which plans to have the capacity to supply 10 million people with this type of energy by 2030.
With these projects approved by the government, the country would reach a number of 2 million, meaning the expectation is that new programs for offshore wind farms will emerge to meet American targets.
