An Offshore Wind Farm And Giant Turbines Capable Of Providing Energy To More Than 600 Thousand Families. That’s What A Bold Project Promises, Capable Of Supplying Three States.
According to information from the Electrek website, the project, presented by Vineyard Offshore, specialized in wind farms, represents a proposal for the construction of a 1.2 Gigawatt (GW) offshore wind farm with giant turbines.
According to the cited portal, this project could potentially supply three U.S. states: Massachusetts, Connecticut, and Rhode Island. Additionally, the site explains that the proposal has been titled Vineyard Wind 2 and would be the second of its name – the first was also developed by the same company.
According to Electrek, the project was a request made by these states, which asked for a park that would provide energy supply with offshore wind capacity of up to 6.8 GW. As a result, Vineyard Wind 2 was proposed for each state and for all three states together. This occurred within the request process for the New England region, where the three U.S. federal units are located.

Offshore Wind Farm Has Massive Support
According to the information, the project has reliability status, as Vineyard Offshore included in the proposal more than 200 letters of support from local authorities, suppliers, and stakeholders from all the mentioned states.
In an interview with Electrek, Alícia Barton, CEO of Vineyard Offshore, stated that, “as the team that developed Vineyard Wind 1, the first commercial-scale offshore wind project in the country, Vineyard Offshore knows how to provide offshore wind energy to the states of New England.”
According to her, this fact contributed to the presented project gaining the community’s trust. Benefits Of The Wind Farm Installation According to Vineyard Offshore, the installation of the wind farm, if it goes ahead, will bring numerous advantages for the environment.
Among the highlights is that the clean energy the Vineyard Wind 2 installation could provide would be sufficient to, starting in 2031, supply the homes of more than 650 thousand families.
Additionally, the proposal highlights that the positive impact of the project would be the avoidance of 2.1 million tons of CO₂ emissions annually across the New England region, which is equivalent to removing 414 thousand cars from the roads.
Where The Park Should Be Installed
This wind farm, if it goes ahead, will be installed about 45 kilometers south of Nantucket, in an area maintained by funds managed by Copenhagen Infrastructure Partners, a company partnered with Vineyard Offshore that develops clean energy centers in the U.S.
In total, this project is expected to generate about US$ 2.3 billion in direct expenses and 3.8 thousand jobs across the New England region.
On the other hand, the expectation is that the wind farm, over 20 years, could generate, in the electricity market, benefits valued at US$ 4.8 billion, with US$ 600 million coming from reduced electricity market rates and also from preventing price spikes during the winter.
