Agreement aims at digital sovereignty
The instrument gives political weight to a technical relationship built over two decades. The partnership places Brazil in a select group of countries with this type of digital cooperation.
The proposal came from the European Union, which maintains similar instruments only with Canada, South Korea, Japan, and Singapore. The goal is to intensify joint action in digital areas.

Brazil and the European Union want to reduce dependency
With the partnership, Brazil and the European Union hope to reduce dependency in key sectors, such as chip manufacturing and cloud services, dominated by American companies.
Minister Esther Dweck stated that the partnership comes at an opportune moment, in light of government initiatives to strengthen digital sovereignty.
She said that President Lula is expected to announce the acquisition of an artificial intelligence supercomputer, as part of the effort to reinforce this agenda.
Commercial Agreement Boosted Digital Advancement
The Executive Vice-President of the European Commission for Digital Sovereignty, Security, and Democracy, Henna Virkkunen, linked the partnership to the free trade agreement signed months earlier between the European Union and Mercosur.
During the ceremony, Virkkunen stated that the commercial agreement was an important step and that the bloc wants to take advantage of the benefits achieved.
