The New Repactation of the BR 101 Contract in Espírito Santo Brings Innovative Advantages for Motorcyclists and Frequent Drivers
The changes in the duplicating contract of the BR 101 in Espírito Santo, approved by the Federal Court of Accounts (TCU), promise to transform toll payment in the region. Scheduled to be signed in 2025, the new agreement includes toll licensing for motorcycles and progressive discounts for frequent light vehicle users.
Toll Exemption for Motorcycles
One of the main novelties is the full toll authorization for motorcycles. This measure is already adopted in more recent road concession contracts and reflects a modernization of pricing policies. Currently, motorcyclists pay half the fee at each toll plaza, but starting with the new contract, they will benefit from free passage.

According to Marcelo Fonseca, superintendent of concession at ANTT, this authorized measure addresses a growing demand and promotes greater assets in the use of highways by motorcycles.

Progressive Discounts for Frequent Users
Another highlight, in addition to motorcycles, is the progressive discount for drivers of light vehicles who frequently use the toll. The benefit will be applied starting from the fifth passage of the same month and will work as follows:
- The discount starts at 5% off the last paid toll.
- With each subsequent passage, the discount is calculated on the previously paid amount.
- By the end of the month, frequent users can save up to 90% of the total amount, depending on the number of trips made.
To take advantage of the benefit, it will be necessary to install an electronic sticker (TAG) on the vehicle, allowing for automated tracking of passages.
Differentiated Tolls by Type of Lane
In addition to the changes for motorcyclists and frequent users, the new contract provides for distinct tolls for single and dual lanes. This change reflects a more equitable charge, adjusted to the type of infrastructure available for drivers. However, the toll changes will only be applied after the completion of the duplication works.
The adjustment of the tolls will also be conditioned to the completion of 90% of the works provided in the new contract, especially during the first three years. This requirement aims to ensure that services are delivered on time, benefiting users.
Benefits for Users of the BR 101
The new rules represent a step forward in the relationship between performance and drivers. Among the main benefits are:
- Significant savings for motorcyclists and frequent drivers.
- Fairer charges with fees adjusted to the road’s infrastructure.
- Greater transparency in the fulfillment of works and toll adjustments.
