Called Operation Platform, the action was coordinated by the Ibama team from Santos-SP in partnership with the Brazilian Navy and involved participation from the Naval Patrol Group from Rio de Janeiro and the Poseidon aircraft, which has long-range monitoring equipment.
After a report last Tuesday (21), the vessel was caught fishing illegally in security areas near Petrobras oil platforms in the Santos Basin, and the images were released on Friday (24).

A giant ship, set to depart from Brazil for Venezuela, sank with 5,000 cattle and tons of oil, and has remained at the bottom of the sea for over 10 years, rendering the beach unusable and causing environmental impacts.
Subsequently, Ibama conducted monitoring through the Satellite Tracking Program (Preps) which followed the vessel’s route to its final disembarkation at the Port of Itajaí – SC, where the fishermen were approached and the cargo seized by the agency’s inspectors.
Ibama emphasizes that fishing is prohibited within a radius of 500 meters from oil platforms, as a collision between a vessel and the platform can cause environmental damage and accidents. The owner of the seized boat may face a fine of up to BRL 1.5 million.
“It’s no coincidence that this area is prohibited. When a fishing vessel enters this area, its catch attracts birds. There is aircraft movement. With the risk of a problem, a malfunction caused by a bird entering a turbine creates a situation where the damage can be incalculable, both for the platform and for the people nearby. The environmental impact as well,” highlights federal environmental agent Ana Angélica Alabarce, head of Ibama in Santos.
