After Closing a Major Contract with Equinor Last Week, It’s Now Petrobras’s Turn to Close with Prumo for VLCC Ship Operations
Rio de Janeiro, March 25, 2019 – Petrobras and Açu Petróleo (a partnership of Prumo Logística and Oiltanking) signed a contract to conduct ship-to-ship operations at the company’s Oil Terminal (T-OIL), located in the Açu Port Complex in northern Rio de Janeiro. The contract has a duration of 24 months and provides for up to 48 operations with Suezmax and VLCC (Very Large Crude Carrier) vessels, which may be extended for an equal period. Petrobras currently operates only at the Terminals of Angra dos Reis (TEBIG) and São Sebastião (TEBAR) for oil exports.
“The signing of this contract with Petrobras reinforces the importance of our Terminal’s differentiators in clients’ decision-making. We are the only private terminal in the country capable of receiving VLCC vessels, in addition to offering predictability and security in operations, which are conducted in a sheltered area, with efficiency, reliability, respect, and care for the environment.

Cocoa and chocolate products are now subject to a tougher national rule, and off-standard products will have to change their name, label, and presentation to consumers.
These differentiators have increasingly proven to be priority factors for our clients, such as Petrobras and Equinor,” said Victor Snabaitis Bomfim, president of Açu Petróleo.
Last week, Açu Petróleo also signed a contract with Equinor for ship-to-ship operations at the terminal. Lasting 36 months, the contract aims to handle oil produced in the Roncador field starting in January 2020.
“For this year, we expect to move double the amount of 2018, when we reached approximately 40 million barrels for the year. Additionally, we are advancing in the development of the onshore storage project that, besides providing better optimization of DP vessels for our clients, will offer new services such as storage, dewatering, and blending,” Bomfim emphasized.
T-OIL
At T-OIL, the oil transshipment operation is conducted by a world-class operator, Oiltanking, in a sheltered area by a breakwater, allowing for a reliable and safe operation, with efficiency and reduced final costs for clients, which increases the competitiveness of Brazilian oil. The operation features two vessels docked at the breakwater, both surrounded by containment barriers, which minimize the risk of environmental impact.
With modern infrastructure, the terminal has the capacity and is licensed to handle up to 1.2 million barrels of oil per day.
With a depth of 25 meters, T-OIL is the only private terminal in Brazil capable of receiving VLCC-class vessels, which have a storage capacity of up to 2 million barrels of crude oil.
