Açu Petroleum Petrobras

After closing a large contract with Equinor last week, now it's Petrobras' turn to close with Prumo for VLCC-type vessel operations

Rio de Janeiro, March 25, 2019 – Petrobras and Açu Petróleo (partnership of Prumo Logística and Oiltanking) signed a contract to carry out ship to ship operations at the company’s Oil Terminal (T-OIL), located in the Porto do Porto Complex. Açu, in the north of Rio de Janeiro. The contract has a duration of 24 months and provides for the performance of up to 48 operations with Suezmax and VLCC (Very Large Crude Carrier) vessels, and may be extended for the same period. Petrobras currently operates only at the Angra dos Reis (TEBIG) and São Sebastião (TEBAR) terminals for oil exports.

“The signing of this contract with Petrobras reinforces the importance of our Terminal's differentials in decision-making by customers. We are the only private terminal in the country capable of receiving VLCC vessels, in addition to offering predictability and safety in operations, which are carried out in a sheltered area, with efficiency, reliability, respect and care for the environment.

These differentials have increasingly become priority factors for our customers, such as Petrobras and Equinor”, said Victor Snabaitis Bomfim, president of Açu Petróleo.

Last week, Açu Petróleo also signed a contract with Equinor to carry out ship to ship operations at the terminal. With a duration of 36 months, the contract provides for the disposal, from January 2020, mainly of the oil produced in the Roncador field.

“For this year, the forecast is to move twice as much as in 2018, when we reached approximately 40 million barrels in the year. In addition, we are advanced in the development of the onshore tanking project which, in addition to providing a better optimization of the DP vessel fleet for our customers, will offer new services, such as storage, dewatering and blending”, highlighted Bomfim.

T-OIL

At T-OIL, the oil transhipment operation is carried out by a world-class operator, Oiltanking, in an area sheltered by a breakwater, enabling a reliable and safe operation, with efficiency and a reduction in the final cost for customers, which increases the competitiveness of Brazilian oil. The operation has the two ships moored on the breakwater, both surrounded by containment barriers, which minimizes the risk of impact on the environment.

With modern infrastructure, the terminal has the capacity and is licensed to handle up to 1,2 million barrels of oil/day.

With a depth of 25 meters, T-OIL is the only Brazilian private terminal capable of receiving VLCC class vessels, which have a storage capacity of up to 2 million barrels of crude oil.
