The Market Leader in the Oil Segment, Onshore and Offshore Petrobras Built a Sort of ‘Deposit’ Irregularly on the Seafloor – The ‘Submerged Deposit’ in the Campos Basin Occupies an Area Equivalent to That of Florianópolis
Petrobras has erected a sort of deposit in the Campos Basin, filled with over a thousand pipelines and machinery from oil platforms. The area occupied by Petrobras items is said to be larger than the city of Florianópolis (SC), according to IBAMA.

Petrobras Speaks Out About Its Illegal ‘Deposit’ of Oil Around the Campos Basin
After the news went viral in major media outlets, the oil company made a statement to the Jornal Estadão. The oil company stated that it is seeking an agreement to remove its illegal ‘deposit’ of oil. It is estimated that removing the warehouse from the site will cost over 15 billion reais. The oil ‘deposit’ reaches more than six areas of the Campos Basin, and the volume of items is simply colossal.
Thus, it was revealed that there are over 1,400 KM of Petrobras items in the illegal ‘warehouse’ around the Campos Basin, according to IBAMA. Among the items are flexible PVC pipes that were likely used to extract oil and subsequently discarded on the ocean floor.

Petrobras Will Be Fined by IBAMA Due to Lack of Licensing for These Operations
In total, there are more than six regions used as illegal oil ‘deposits’ by Petrobras, making it sound as if an entire capital had been turned into an illegal ‘deposit.’
“Undeniably, the areas referred to as ‘submarine warehouses’ have been used by Petrobras for the storage of equipment (e.g., flexible lines, umbilicals, anchoring systems) without the proper environmental licensing,” declares IBAMA.
Additionally, initially, IBAMA imposed a fine of R$ 2.5 million on Petrobras and required compensation of R$ 25 million for the environmental impact caused, as well as the removal of each pipe and screw that the state-owned company abandoned along the Brazilian coast.
