The result of the analysis stated that the pre-salt well in Petrobras' Campos Basin will have a production capacity of 15 barrels of oil per day

A Petrobras began operating, at the beginning of August, the oil well MLS-233 located in the pre-salt layer of the Campos Basin. Preliminary research shows that the new well, next to P-40, in Ativo Marlim Sul, has a production potential of 15 barrels of oil per day, which exceeds Petrobras' preliminary estimates.

Petrobras' MLS-233 oil well in the Campos Basin marks the beginning of pre-salt production in the Marlim Sul field and is a Long Duration Test (EWT), which aims to collect information about the reservoir to subsidize the exploration plan for the deposit.

In 2022, the interconnection stages of the Petrobras oil well to the platform and the pull in took place, in the Campos Basin, which used exclusive technologies. With a view to making its activities even safer, faster and with less carbon emissions, in the new well in Campos Basin, Petrobras stopped working with the shallow diving boat (SDSV) and started using a submarine messenger cable with the use of an underwater vehicle that operates remotely, a mini ROV, for the pull-in operation.

A drone was also used to help transport the messenger cable between the P-40 and the PLSV, a specialized vessel that is used for the construction and laying of rigid and flexible lines.

The use of the drone maintained a safer distance between the vessels, around 120 meters apart, and allowed the monitoring of the oil exploration phases through the live images generated. Petrobras' initiatives led to a 75% reduction in HHER (man-hours exposed to risk) in the initial activities of interconnecting the well in the Campos Basin, in addition to reducing the time by 70% in these two stages of oil exploration.

Initial tests to start oil exploration

After the results of the tests carried out in the new exploration well of oil in Campos Basin, Petrobras was surprised by the data exposed in the document. According to preliminary analyzes carried out, Petrobras' oil well MLS-233, as previously mentioned, has an oil production potential of 15 barrels of oil daily, surpassing even Petrobras' initial estimates.

“The MLS-233 symbolizes the beginning of pre-salt production in the Marlim Sul field and is a Long Duration Test (EWT), whose objective is to collect information about the reservoir to support the exploration plan for the deposit”, informed the oil company in a note. Petrobras also said that the use of new technologies made it possible to reduce the time of some stages by 70% and increased the safety of workers in the Campos Basin pre-salt layer.

As mentioned, this year, steps were taken to connect the well to the platform and pull in, in which different technologies were used. Petrobras also stopped using the shallow diving boat (SDSV) and started using a submarine messenger cable using a remotely operated underwater vehicle, a mini ROV, for the pull-in operation.

“A drone was also used to support the transport of messenger cables between the P-40 and the PLSV — a specialized vessel that is used to build and lay rigid and flexible lines. The use of the drone maintained a safer distance between the vessels and also allowed the monitoring of the stages through the live generated images”, concluded Petrobras.
