The Energy Minister of Israel Said on Sunday That the Brazilian State Oil Company Petrobras Will Participate in a Bidding to Explore Oil and Gas off the Coasts of Israel
Petrobras is considering exploring oil and gas in the waters of Israel, a decision that may be announced during Brazilian President Jair Bolsonaro’s four-day visit to Israel, which began yesterday (31). The possibility of Petróleo Brasileiro SA (as the company is formally known) participating in the latest Israeli auction of offshore blocks was raised during a meeting in Houston earlier this month between Israeli Energy Minister Yuval Steinitz and his Brazilian counterpart Bento Albuquerque, the Israeli newspaper Calcalist reported.
Steinitz’s office declined to comment on the report.
Petrobras did not wish to comment on this matter at this time.

A series of major gas discoveries off the coast of Israel and in the Eastern Mediterranean waters in recent years have made Israel highly sought after, with lucrative potential for large energy companies.
Israel is offering 19 new offshore blocks for oil and gas companies. A previous auction drew bids from only two groups of companies, and the Ministry of Energy said it expects more competition this time as conditions improve.
Exxon Mobil Corp, in a major policy shift, is also considering bids in the auction.
