The Peugeot 208 2026 Makes Its Debut in Brazil with a Mild Hybrid Version, CVT Transmission in Turbo Options, Urban Consumption of Up to 13 km/l, and Price Repositioning That Places It Below the Main Rivals in the Segment.

The 2026 line of the Peugeot 208 begins selling in Brazil with three central changes: the debut of the GT T200 Hybrid version with a 12 V mild hybrid system, the adoption of the CVT automatic transmission in the 1.0 turbo configurations, and a price repositioning that keeps the hatch below rivals such as Chevrolet Onix, Volkswagen Polo, and Honda City hatch in entry-level configurations.

In practice, the compact combines the performance of a 1.0 turbo engine with up to 130 hp focusing on efficiency and cost of use, especially in the city.

Certified by Inmetro, the 208 GT T200 Hybrid records 13 km/l in urban cycles and 13.8 km/l on the highway with gasoline, while with ethanol, the averages are 9.1 km/l in the city and 9.6 km/l on the highway.

Versions of the Peugeot 208 2026 and Market Positioning

To simplify the offering, Peugeot organized the 208 2026 into four main versions.

The entry-level option remains the Style 1.0, equipped with a naturally aspirated 1.0 Firefly engine, a five-speed manual transmission, and a focus on low acquisition cost.

Above it are the new configurations Active T200 CVT and Allure T200 CVT, both with a 1.0 turbo T200 engine and CVT automatic transmission, but without electrification.

At the top of the range is the GT T200 Hybrid, the only one with a mild hybrid system.

At the launch date of the 2026 line, the announced price list indicated R$ 91,990 for the 208 Style 1.0, R$ 108,990 for the Active T200 CVT, R$ 117,990 for the Allure T200 CVT, and R$ 126,990 for the GT T200 Hybrid.

Mild Hybrid of the Peugeot 208: System Operation

The electrification of the 208 does not turn the hatch into a full hybrid but adds a 12 V mild hybrid system.

The set uses a BSG belt-driven motor-generator that replaces the alternator and starter motor.

The device recovers energy during deceleration, stores it in a 12 V lithium-ion battery, and assists the 1.0 turbo engine during starts and accelerations, reducing the effort of the combustion engine.

According to Peugeot, this arrangement allows for an efficiency gain of up to 10% in urban use, especially due to the smoother start-stop and electric assistance at traffic lights.

Thus, the 208 GT T200 Hybrid achieves the aforementioned 13 km/l in the city and 13.8 km/l on the highway with gasoline, maintaining 9.1 km/l and 9.6 km/l with ethanol.

Engines, Transmission, and Proposals of Each Version

The Style 1.0 continues with the 1.0 aspirated Firefly engine with up to 75 hp and 10.7 kgfm, always combined with the five-speed manual transmission.

It is the option aimed at the audience prioritizing purchase price and simple economy.

The Active T200 CVT and Allure T200 CVT versions adopt the 1.0 turbo T200, which develops up to 130 hp with ethanol and 20.4 kgfm of maximum torque, coupled to the CVT automatic transmission with seven simulated gears.

This combination prioritizes comfort in urban commuting and greater efficiency on highways.

At the top, the GT T200 Hybrid retains the same 1.0 turbo engine and CVT transmission, adding the 12 V mild hybrid system.

The proposal is to offer the most technologically complete 208, with a safety package and the lowest urban consumption in the range.

Dimensions and Interior Space of the Peugeot 208 2026

Produced in Argentina, the Peugeot 208 2026 measures 4.05 m in length, around 1.73 m in width, 1.45 m in height, and has a wheelbase of 2.53 m.

The trunk of 265 liters meets daily use.

The tank of 47 liters contributes to competitive autonomy, especially in turbo and hybrid versions, which can approach 650 km with gasoline in an ideal scenario.

Consumption of the Peugeot 208 2026

The data from Inmetro shows the evolution of the 208 with the mild hybrid system.

In official measurements, the GT T200 Hybrid improved from approximately 12.5 km/l to 13 km/l in the city with gasoline, and maintained 13.8 km/l on the highway.

With ethanol, it recorded 9.1 km/l in the city and 9.6 km/l on the highway.

In urban use, the gain is more evident since the hybrid system operates more frequently during starts and low speeds.

Price Comparison with Onix, Polo, and City

In the entry-level configuration, the Peugeot 208 Style 1.0 is priced around R$ 91,990, below competitors such as Chevrolet Onix, Volkswagen Polo Track, and Honda City hatch.

In the turbo automatic versions, the 208 Active T200 CVT and the Allure T200 CVT, priced at R$ 108,990 and R$ 117,990, directly compete with intermediate versions of Onix and Polo.

The differentiator is the connectivity with a 10.3-inch multimedia system and the equipment package.

The GT T200 Hybrid stands out for being one of the few mild hybrid compacts in the segment, priced around R$ 126,990.

Equipment and Technologies of the Versions

In the top version, the 208 GT T200 Hybrid gathers the most complete package of the line.

Among the items are Full LED headlights, 17-inch wheels, 10″ 3D digital dashboard, 10.3″ Peugeot i-Connect multimedia, induction charger, and a set of driving assists with collision warning, automatic braking, lane assist, and fatigue detector.

The Active and Allure T200 CVT versions come with a 10.3″ multimedia center, alloy wheels, stability and traction controls, hill start assist, and six airbags.

The Active is the entry point to the turbo automatic set, while the Allure adds more finishing and connectivity.

The Style 1.0 maintains a focus on cost-benefit, offering the basic mandatory equipment for safety and comfort.

The adoption of the CVT transmission was designed for daily use, especially in heavy traffic.

The system keeps the engine at lower RPMs at cruising speed, contributing to reduced consumption and internal noise.

The seven simulated gears help replicate the sensation of traditional shifts. With a wheelbase of 2.53 m, the 208 offers adequate space for four adults.

The compact dimensions facilitate maneuvering and parking. The suspension and electric steering set has been calibrated to balance comfort and stability.
