The State of Piauí Is Advancing in the Clean Energy Market and Will Receive Nearly 30 Investments in Wind and Solar Plants. The Expectation Is That, Per Year, 322 MW of Renewable Energy Will Be Generated.
The state of Piauí will receive more than R$ 6 billion in investments from energy sector companies for the start of commercial operation of 27 new wind farms and solar power plants by January 2026. This information was disclosed by the Electricity Trading Chamber (CCEE) on Wednesday (15), and is included in reports of new energy auctions held in recent years by the organization itself and also by the National Electric Energy Agency (Aneel).
Piauí Will Produce 322 MW After Investments in Wind and Solar Energy
According to CCEE, 21 projects for wind energy generation and 6 for photovoltaic solar energy will be installed, which together are expected to generate about 322 average megawatts annually for the National Interconnected System (SIN), an amount equivalent to almost 60% of all the energy consumed in the territory of Piauí.
The new wind and solar plants from these investments will add more than one thousand megawatts of capacity, expanding the installed capacity of these sources in the state from the current 3.8 thousand MW to almost 5 thousand MW. It is important to highlight that Piauí is among the states that generate the most sustainable energy in the country, especially in the wind energy market.

While hydroelectric plants lose capacity due to evaporation caused by heat in the reservoirs, the Philippines are installing floating solar panels on the plants’ own lakes, generating energy, reducing evaporation by up to 70%, and cooling the panels to increase electrical efficiency at the same time.

Google builds the world’s largest iron-air battery in Minnesota with 300 MW and 30 GWh to store energy for 100 consecutive hours.

Small and flexible hydropower plants can be a game-changer for clean energy by generating electricity in previously overlooked rivers, without requiring large dams or aggressively altering the water flow.

Dongfang breaks world record and manufactures 26 MW wind turbine in China with 137-meter blades that spin so slowly they appear stationary on the horizon.
In the evaluation of the Electricity Trading Chamber, in addition to environmental gains, investments in wind and solar energy sources create job opportunities and income for the population, as well as increasing the reliability of the SIN, and keeping the national electric sector among the most sustainable in the world.
Piauí Holds Event Focused on Renewable Energy
Scheduled for September 5 and 6, the Sinergia Piauí Renewable Energies was launched last Wednesday (8), at an event held at the Federation of Industries of Piauí (FIEPI). Sinergia Piauí aims to connect professionals from various sectors, making it possible to exchange information, experiences, and ideas focused on renewable energy production, such as solar and wind energy.
At the launch, Fernando Eduardo Sousa de Lima, Secretary of Mining and Renewable Energies of Piauí, commented on the essential nature of Sinergia Piauí and stated that wind and solar energies are infinite and should be utilized by the entire population.
Sousa highlights that, since he arrived at the Secretariat, he has worked hard to create a solar and wind atlas for the state, understanding the demand to expand clean energy. The secretary states that with the atlas it will be possible to attract investments by demonstrating Piauí’s potential.
Piauí Has One of the Largest Wind Power Plants in the World
Brazil has greatly developed in the wind energy sector in recent years and, in June of last year, received the title of owner of the largest wind power plant in South America.
The project was named Parque Eólico Lagoa dos Ventos, located in the heart of Piauí State, between the municipalities of Dom Inocêncio, Queimada Nova, and Lagoa do Barro, and has an installed capacity of 716 MW. In total, the plant has 230 wind energy generators operating on-site, spread over more than 120 kilometers.
The plant will, on its own, avoid the emission of 1.6 million tons of CO₂ annually, in addition to supplying renewable energy to cities in Piauí and other states in the Northeast of the country. The Northeast set another record in the last 12 months, aided by the Parque Eólico Lagoa dos Ventos. According to ABEEólica, in the last year, the region was entirely supplied, for 100% of the day, by wind energy.
